On Labor day, a few friends and I went to Buttonwillow Raceway in So-Cal for 10 hours trackdaybruh. We got up at 5:30am, got some Subway, which to my surprise was open that early, then headed to the track for setup/tech inspection. For this track event, the configuration was set to one of the longest ones, #1.

It was the first time I took my Aprilia Tuono V4R to the track, and I’ve only been riding it for a month or so, so it was still very new to me! However, with the help of a “novice racer school”, 170hp, and sticky tires, I was able to squeeze out a 2:24, which to me is pretty good!

Now I’m addicted to this sport after this and my previous California Superbike school class (seen in last image), so I’ll need to do another shortly!

Here are some pics of me not dragging knee, although I was still faster than most who did ;)

You’ll soon learn dragging a knee doesn’t mean much other than spending money on new knee pucks . Most racers and really fast guys don’t drag purposefully.

Knee can be deliberately dragged by riding crossed up or in dorito position. Don't worry about dragging it. If it happens, it happens. Doesn't mean you are fast or slow.

Lol. Good point. The saying “Dragging a knee is a result, not a goal.” is pretty pertinent . How long have you been racing/tracking?

Racing one year. Tracking for 2. I got pulled in hook, line, and sinker pretty quick hahah. Since may I’ve already spent around 20ish days at the track between racing and etc. I live in the upper midwest so track season is May-Sept.

I Have another race weekend at the end of month and plan on doing Yamaha School of Champions this winter. So tack another 5 days onto that.

This looks incredibly perfect. Now I’m wishing even more that I wasn’t at work.

How do you like the Tuono V4R? A buddy of mine is constantly talking about his need for an RSV4, and I tend to agree with him.

I’ve dragged a knee!! Once, twice, maybe three times ! I was super stoked.

I wasn’t trying and I’m not fast. I t ry not to ride all crossed up. I was way over in that one corner. It startled me the first time.......

Now I need to get back to the track.......

I don't really do it particularly often anymore as my BP has a rather tucked in inside leg. When I do drag knee it usually means I'm in "oh fuck" zone or i've already crashed.

YCRS is a game changer. I did it last year. It was kinda weird, my laptimes actually slowed down at first while trying to process the new way of thinking and riding , but then they improved considerably after a while.

Can’t tell from the pics, but do you have tank grips? They made a yuge difference for me, especially with jamming my outside knee into the tank for stability.

Now start saving cash for a truck & toy hauler. You’ll need it. Something like this will do:

I have techspec tank grips! They helped a lot later in the day as I became more relaxed and got off the seat a lot more. Next time I go, I’ll need to practice better body position and keeping my chest to the tank.
That truck/trailer combo looks amazing! I only wish I had the $, a house, and space to keep it! lol

The toyhauler/camper is a game changer, especially for long race weekends. Feels so much better to sleep on a proper bed, in AC, with a toilet, and power, etc . . .

Man, I’m so jealous! I haven’t been to the track in 2 years, just haven’t had the time. Haven’t ridden too much this year either, between the weather and work trips.

Love that bike though man, very nice!

Yep, best purchase I have made. The ability to take a nice relaxing dump and a quick shower first thing in the morning is priceless.

Plus, taking a nap at lunch in the AC keeps you refreshed for the afternoon, getting your $$$ worth out of the day.

Dude, I wish! Josh seems like such a cool guy to hang with. Channing Tatum does track days with Let’s Ride as well, but he crashed a few weekends ago...
