2&3. My old neighbor let me drive his Vega before he sold it. It had a 502 with a blower and wasn’t actually street legal.

1-3, 2007 F-250 with the diesel equivalent of fbo, bigger injectors and bigger turbo. Merging on wet days was terrifying with ~1000 wtq and 35" mud terrains.

The 1979 Malibu wagon was originally a 6cyl car. The driveline was the only thing modded. IIRC it was 650hp, which was both a complete riot and absolutely scary at the same time.

199,495 miles is how much abuse a Chrysler 604 trans can take before it decides enough is enough. Neutral/reverse drops, manual shifting, etc were the norm for that trans.

Owned: 1998 grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited.

Driven: Lotus Elise ( if I rank by power to weight).

Scariest.: Jeep CJ powered by a built Chevrolet 350 v8 with a manual transmission. It popped wheelies unintentionally and sadly   the vehicle did eventually claim a life.

3. Honestly probably my 2004 FZ6, it’s the most powerful bike I’ve driven and being a bike the  HP:weight ratio is crazy. 98HP and probably 700lbs counting myself.

2) a Dodge Viper with a twin turbo kit from Underground Racing I believe

3) tied between a highly modified STI and 911 Turbo. the STI was scary because it was nothing until 2.5k rpm and then blasted off. the 911 was just too fast, felt squirrelly.

3.  Eh, I dunno.  The F150 was pretty solid.  Probably the scariest was my 81 Camaro.  The whopping 115 HP out of the 229 wasn’t particularly fast, but when it got upwards of 8o MPH the whole car started to float

1. Tie between a 1990 Towncar and 2001 PT Cruiser - 150 HP

2. Prototype Challenger MT900 with just under 2k lb-ft of the torques

3. Early 2000s Impala, that was extremely rusted out, had a ton of electrical issues, and soft, grinding brakes. I didn’t want to go over 30, so that car had waaaay too much power...

3. See #2, it wasn’t my car and the owner was even in the car and he told me to put the hammer down from a dead stop. I was maybe 19-20 at the time and it was fast, scary and exhilarating!

All 3 in two vehicles. My brother’s ‘69 Buick Special. 455, well built, EFI, N2O. I took it on a pass down the 1/4 mile for a 12.2 at 118 MPH. That crazy boost when you push the N2O button is... crazy! Foolishly, I left the Nitrous armed while we were driving home from the track. And I accidentally left the bottle heater on. The highway was a little damp and I tried to use it... with the overpressurized Nitrous bottle there was zero traction. I promptly put the car sideways at 80 MPH and simultaneously blew a hole in the piston. Whoops.

Years later, after _that_ rebuild, his car was just too rotted out to save and we put his engine in my car. So now my ‘73 Buick LeSabre has the most powerful engine I’ve ever driven, but the engine needs a full refresh again before it’s ready for N2O.

The ‘69 Buick was the scariest because the car was just too light for this much torque. It drives so much better in the larger car! An extra 1,000 lbs helps too, but means we will need to add N2O back again someday...

1. My Golf- it’s the only vehicle I’ve ever owned.

2. My Mom’s BMW- it’s whatever the most powerful 3 series was two years ago that wasn’t an M, because she’s bougie. Surprisingly, it’s more tame and less exciting than...

3. My Golf, again. Being that it has no traction control, ABS, or really anything (maybe not even airbags, but I’m not going to try and find out), if I drive it hard, I’m dealing with the consequences of my actions. Hydraulic steeri ng also means that if I’m not manhandling the wheel at speed on a shit road, that car is steering itself wherever it wants to go. The engine was rebuilt about 10k before I bought it, so it probably makes above 100 hp when everything’s working, so I ca n actually get myself into trouble.

Either that or my dad's E150 with constant death wobble.

3) 2012 Dodge Avenger. Why? Because during my top speed run in one (Enterprise rental) it hit the top speed of the speedometer (120) and kept going. These cars are supposed to be limited to 115-120 but it  seems like the limiter doesn’t always work.

1) VW Routan (within spitting distance of 300 hp/ 300 ft. lbs.)

2) C5 Z06, I don’t remember the year. One of my parent’s old neighbors had one and let me drive it... I made him wet himself a little bit.

3) I’ve driven some scary vehicles... but nothing in terms of power. Come back to me when it’s about scetchy/shouldn’t be on the road vehicles.

1. It’s a toss-up between my current Mustang ( 215hp/285tq) and Sierra ( 200hp/300tq) .

2. Some motorhome, I’m sure. Cat, Cummins, or Workhorse.

3. Never driven anything with a power level high enough to be scary .

ISF at 416hp/371 lb-ft

Ferrari 458 or P100D

3. What’s the scariest vehicle you’ve driven in terms of power?

ISF. It moves and the 458 was on an autocross style course. The RX350 is kind of scary too as 300+ to the front wheels can make it squirmy sitting so high.

The Jag rental car in Germany was the 380hp model, I think - that would be the most powerful driven:

I am usually a pretty mellow driver (if not a bit irked sometimes), I haven’t really been too scared of a car’s power.

3. See #2. I will just say that the front end of that car got very light at 135mph. My current Camaro would be runner up. When I brought it home the steering was terrible. It was barely controllable. A little investigation turned up the fact that the steering shaft cou pler was both worn out and loose.

The Malibu I drove was originally a 6 cyl car that my friend and his buddies decided needed their “race” engine one night while drunk.

650hp 502, mated to a 4-speed manual, in an otherwise stock 6 cyl Malibu wagon body.

Steering was done with a mix of brakes and throttle. Brakes were almost non-existent. Suspension was super floaty. Dump the clutch off a light and it dangled the front wheels while fighting traction at the rear through 1st, grab 2nd and it would fully extend the suspension up front still fighting for traction, by 3rd it was finally settled enough to get sideways.......

Most powerful owned: modded lgt wagon.

Most powerful driven: no idea. Swapped rx7? Humvee? (So much torque even if it’s slow) turbo swapped STI? IUNNO.

Scariest: FB rx-7 with an rb26dett making 425 to the wheels at about 2200 lbs. That car is terrifying, and only partially because the super old steering isn’t exactly... r esponsive.

My tweaked BMW 335xi with somewhere in the range of about 350-375 whp (400-430 crank hp?) according to other people’s dynos.

A friend’s single turbo MkIV Supra with 600-something whp. 

’96 Viper GTS that was scary because of its claustrophobic interior.

1. 320hp ‘04 Mach 1. I really should have tried harder to keep it, but I was doing the “responsible thing” and sold it to pay off some debt.

2. “500hp” ‘03 Mustang Cobra. Salesman let me take a slighly extended test drive to get a second opinion from a friend. It was surprisingly easy to handle that much power, it doesn’t come on as hard as a powerful NA engine.

3. The Mach 1 was the scariest. It’s power surged somewhere around 3000rpm, so it’d overpower the tires mid corner if you were hard on it, and the tires were sticky, so you were going fast, and the rear suspension would just let got when it reached the limit. So, be ready to oppo because you didn’t know when it would happen and you didn’t have much reaction time when it did.

I loved that Mach 1.  I really want another one.

3. What’s the scariest vehicle you’ve driven in terms of power?

My neighbor’s 65 Cobra while he followed me in my AMG.

1. Most powerful I owned: 2000 Saab 9-3 - 185HP.

2. Most powerful I’ve driven: Lexus ES350... which I think had 296HP... though I rented moving vans from time to time. One I rented had a Chevy 8.1L V8, one had the Ford 6.8L V10 and one had the Chevy 6L V8.  Between those 3, I think the highest HP rating was maybe 362HP.

3. Most Scary: 2000 Saab 9-3 when the APC valve was broken. When stepping on it, would get massive overboost starting at 2000rpm and the engine computer would cut it off the fuel by 3000 rpm as the boost got too high.  This would be coupled with lots of torque steer.

300HP is overkill for my needs . I could get a vehicle with that much power, but I wouldn’t have much opportunity to use that power much without endangering my license.

And it’s not like I have any need to tow stuff like boats, trailers or horses.

My 136HP Focus Wagon is powerful enough to hit 100mph or more... even when loaded with people and luggage.

BUT EVERYONE NEEDS 300 HP!

Honestly, my only “driver” I’ve owned with over 300hp is my F250, but that’s an 8000+lb vehicle so.

I feel 300hp is about double what anyone truly needs for a commuter. I also feel its about 3x more than the average driver can handle.

Most powerful I’ve ever owned? Probably the 89 SHO, although I think the Firebird May have had more than 220 hp Before a valve cracked

Most powerful I’ve ever driven? 2017 Ford Mustang RoushCharged. 670HP/600tq with a 6 speed manual.

Scariest I’ve driven? 2017 F150 Nitemare. Same 670HP built Coyote in a 2wd RCSB F150XL. Only options were tow package and that’s about it. Empty bed plus 22x10 wheels and 305-section Continental tires leads to traction issues to start. Add a late summer Carolina rain and you have something that wants to constantly  swap ends despite every electronic nanny.
