Thinking of selling my tiny boat, but I have no idea what to consider asking for money or trade. Here are some pictures and specs, what would you (honestly) pay if this popped up on your radar?

Its a 1986 AMSTAR LAZER (there were no lower case in the 80's). with a Mercury Mariner 55 hp 2 cylinder 2 stroke (rebranded Yamaha ) outboard. It cost my grandma $6000 in 1986 (About $13,400 today). Built by a small builder local to Utah, its a mini boat we had custom made as a bowrider.

12'4"

350 lbs dry

Trailer is in great shape with new bearings, wheels and lights.

Cons - no trim/tilt (busted in the late 80's), tach has a short, a few cosmetic issues. Otherwise runs like a champ. Carbs rebuilt not long ago.

I’ve loved this boat my entire life (thats me next to my dad)

but I no longer use or need it. Im sad to see it go but I gotta realize It doesn’t serve me anymore.

thoughts?

That’s a really neat little boat. I’d ask $3k and see what happens. No matter what you gotta find someone who wants that kind of unique boat. I’d be interested for my kids if you were closer. I wouldn’t take less than $2k all things considered.

Edit- I see the trailer is in good shape. I assume the transom is solid too?

I’d probably pay 3,000-3500 depending on condition in person. But I do stupid stuff with boats, so my opinion is probably wrong.

That feels like 3k, so maybe ask $3500. It is seriously cool, but I just couldn’t see paying more than 3 for something like that unless it had a more modern outboard. If our slip was a foot wider and a couple of feet  longer, I could tie that up sideways in front of my boat!

Both these   are higher than I was expecting so that’s good. I think your probably right too, I mean even an old jet   ski is 3 Grand

The engine is freaking solid on this thing. Takes a good long while to fire the   first of the year but after that it explodes to life, idles great and pulls hard. That and the fact that it’s still dinner plate clean after 30 years is amazing to me

I’ll be honest, I’m more interested in the Snoopy life preserver. If you were in the midwest I’d offer you a few grand for it. Something that small wouldn’t really have a lot of use where I live without making a day trip - but it’d probably be a riot blasting up and down a river with it.

I was initially thinking around $1500 but there is a 3,000 consensus so I’d go there. It is a unique boat and in great condition so it should fetch a better price.

see if one of your brothers wants to buy it from you, to “keep it in the family”, f or you know sentimental reasons, and give them the family discount, say........$4000?

They didn’t want it when it was $1.38. no chance there.

I don’t doubt the condition at all. It is impressive!

I also remember having boats with carbu re ted two-stroke outboards. They just don’t compare to the modern four-stroke stuff, or even the later DFI two-strokes. The added weight probably wouldn’t be a plus in this application, though.

I agree with the $3-3,500 estimate. It's super friggin cool, though, and I wish I could buy it. I can hear my wife's annoyed laughter already...

Around here I think the book value on something like that is approximately "wanna trade for a snowmobile bro?"

Seems like the consensus is hovering around $3k after all. I’d list it in a wider search than just local CL, if you get that far. This time of year isn’t great, as I’m sure you know. If you can wait for spring you’ll do much better, no doubt.
