Well. So much for that idea.

Giving in to my insomnia, I brainstormed #alternativeThoughts that didn’t involve Toyota products. I remembered that 1st-gen Colorados were cheap (because GM reasons), and thought it was worth a gander.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Nope.

If you want the loaded model with the LH8 V8 (and how could I not? 300hp in a smol boi), the price skyrockets to over 20 grand. Cheapest one I found was 16, with high miles of course.  Oh, and there’s not all that many of them.

Feh. Back to browsing old Tundras and 4Runners.

yeah it’s stupid how much the V8 1st gen Colorado’s are demanding used. sure it m ight help that the i5 was a bit of hot garbage and the v8 was.. well a LS.. haha

the worst part is you can often find decent v6 current gen Colorado’s for the same or cheaper than the v8 1st gen..

I test drove the first gen Colorado (or Canyon, maybe?) before I bought the Tundra. I was able to get both trucks for the exact price (the Colorado was an extra cab because I couldn’t really fit in the regular cab version because I am full grown) and the Tundra felt like an immeasurable upgrade. Granted, it was not the V8 variant of the GM product, but the Toyota, even the stripped down base model, was a much better feeling truck.

Or you could look for an Isuzu. No V8, unfortunately, but still.

This is the closest one I saw.

Ridgeline? Seems like it could be a good compromise for your needs.

If the Ridgeline is too big for your needs, I’m concerned that you may be better vested in getting a flatbed trailer and towing it with the Sportcross...

J/k. Kinda but not really.

I received mixed-to-negative feedback when I asked about pulling a small trailer with the Paseo

I ended up in a nearly loaded Titan crew cab with low miles (for the year) for under $12k. That was cheaper than any 4 door Colorado I could find.

Titan still has the 300hp, but it a big boi.

I had the 4 cylinder model, I paid a whopping 700$ for it from a dealer wholesale lot, basically did tires and brakes and that was it, thing was surprisingly mint for 375k miles.

Ended up letting a friend borrow it and he blew the engine apart though.

All honesty, the I5 is a great little engine.

Willing to to things it shouldn’t, respectable mileage (25mpg all day from my 4x4 with 31s), and extremely reliable from my experience.

My uncle is self employed. H e builds decks, and porches . T his year he bought his third Frontier in 15 years. E ach one of them was a manual, 2wd, stripper with roll up windows, including the 2017 he just bought.

H e loves them for their low cost, and low load height . two things that are getting harder and harder to find. He also says they have been reliable for him even tho he had the other two for over 200,000 miles each

Depends on the year, the updates seem to have fixed many/most issues in my limited research

Depends how it was taken care of, just as any higher mileage vehicle, or any vehicle in general.

You don’t want a 4L60E unless it’s had a cooler plumbed in its whole life. Even then, depending on how high the miles are, the seals could be drying out even if the clutches are fine.

Rangers in nice shape are stupid money too. One of my dealers had a clean 2009 with 75k, rubber floor, white. Basic as it gets and they got $14 k for it.
