Hopefully Amagasaki Motor and Flavien got through Typhoon Jebi better than Kansai airport did, as a fuel tanker to brake loose and collided with the road and rail bridge linking the a irport to the mainland, stranding 3,000. There is also extensive flooding at the airport (which is very close to sea level) . Some helicopter shots of the airfield in the link below:

Not to mention they’ve probably installed giant inflatable platforms in the bedrock to properly transform Kansai into an aircraft carrier.

That’s not good. Looks like the impact happen in place where it is three separate spans, so hopefully the can run traffic both ways on the far span, and maybe still use the train as well, while they inspect/repair the span that was hit.

That airport flooding doesn’t look encouraging  for an age of global warming though. I’m sure they can pile on more fill, though you wonder if at some point they’ll have to look at building barriers to maintain water levels in the Inland Sea.

Yeah, I think the far span is probably ok, though some of the pictures look like the rail bridge might have broken away as well.

I know flooding was a major concern when the airport was first built, but then was promptly forgotten - apparently not anymore .

Come on now, you know Japan doesn’t operate aircraft carriers. I’m sure their floating airport would just be another of Japan’s “Helicopter Destroyers”:

Definitely not an aircraft carrier ...
