Bad news first, I didn’t meet my goal of getting the floor in this weekend. I got close, but had to put it off Sunday to watch the second to last IndyCar race of the year. The season is almost over, and with a six month racing draught, I needs to enjoy that while I can. It was worth it.
The floor is Aquaguard laminate. I generally hate installing click lock flooring. This one is going together a little easier than most, but it’s still a pain. The finish on this stuff is hard as a rock, it’s commercial rated , and it was relatively cheap, so I decided to go for it. I do like the way it looks. More importantly , Mrs. Shop Teacher likes the way it looks. Unfortunately I will not finish it tomorrow, because I have to go rip the school board of my daughter’s school district a new asshole instead. That's a story for another time though.
I also installed the final cabinet, to the right of the microwave/hood . This one wasn’t part of the plan originally. It’s extra shallow because of the chimney. I’m happy with this addition though, it gives the kitchen a much more finished look, and it will be a good spice cabinet.
Oh yeah, and the Mrs decided we needed to expose the chimney brick, so we did that. I also finished running the hood vent from the kitchen ceili ng, through the attic, and up to the roof vent my dad installed for me last month.
So yeah, productive weekend. Now for some Ibuprofen and bed.

I think that floor looks fantastic but I also think your priorities were correct :)
Good luck with the school board!

Ugh on the school board. That sucks.
But I love the look of that floor!

More importantly, Mrs. Shop Teacher likes the way it looks.
When Momma’s happy, everybody is happy.
I envy your skills. My skills are more musical and cerebral. My brother got all the handcraft in the family. I wish I could do something like this, but I’m always better off finding somebody good to pay to do it for me. As Dirty Harry said, “A man’s got to know his limitations.”

I’m not usually a fan of laminate, but that looks pretty good. Well done.
Hope the school board learned their lesson. I’d love to give our principal a piece of my mind too.

I understand the desire to accomplish projects in the real world, but I never want to miss watching an IndyCar race in real time, in-person or on television.
My school district also convenes board meetings on Tuesdays — while we teachers are teaching and thus cannot attend.

Funny, just helped my parents get their kitchen floor done over the weekend, with simil ar panels. Removing the previous tiles which were basically glued down absolutely fucking sucked and I’d rather stab myself than do it again.

Yep, this kind of job isn’t for everyone. I actually used pictures of your kitchen remodel to convince my wife to go with all drawers on the bottom.
I actually have a musical instrument question for you, actually. My wife inherited a very expensive flute from her aunt, which we would like to sell. It’s hard to find comparable ones for sale, but the ones I have found range from $300 to $1500. Any chance you could point me in the direction of how to figure out what all we have, and how to sell this thing?

Thanks.
I hope so too. They really screwed the pooch on this deal.

Well, there's that. I got about 1/3 of the way done, before she decided she had to pick what boards go where.

No, we get so few of them, they aren’t to be missed.
The meeting is at 6:30 pm, but if I had to take the day off, I would.

If you have a local music store with a good repair person, I’d start there. Likewise, if there is a local music school with a flute professor, you might contact them as well. I know next to nothing about flutes, so I would be of no help. If you could send me the make model and VIN, I know a flute teacher who might be able to give you some idea. But I would start with the repair place, and get two or three estimates. I doubt anybody would lowball you, but you never know.

I wish the guy who did our kitchen floor had done a better job. It’s not terrible, but some of the tiles have a high corner that snags chair legs.

I know a guy who sold his trumpet on Ebay. He was quite startled and more than a little bit pleased at what it finally went for. And once you’ve gotten an idea of the value of the instrument -- Ttyymmnn’s offer to show it to a flautist is a good idea -- you might even try Craigslist. Insist on a telephone conversation and you’ll know if they’re serious or a turd.

That’s all too fancy for anything I’d tackle. Hanging _a cabinet_ I’d be down for, but definitely not flooring. I spruced up our kitchen a few years back and got some quality points with my wife.

Is it glue-down onto a slab? Could you call him and ask him to come advise you on it?

Standard tile on the slab. No, it’s been too long. Not the end of the world.
