Don’t you just hate it when you go on a date and your crippling anxiety ruins everything to the point that you’re pretty certain she never wants to see you again?

Oh no, what’d you do?
Or what do you
think
you did? The same crippling anxiety tends to convince you of
stuff that didn’t actually happen.

As someone who gets quite anxious on dates too, I can assure you that everything will be fine. Every date I ever had ended with me feeling like I screwed up, and that she never wanted to see me again. But I’d say about half of those ended up wanting to see me again, and the other half probably wasn’t worth seeing again. Just try to stay positive, and keep in touch with her to see if she would want another date!
(Top tip: with most dates I send a text when I get home, or the next morning, saying something along the lines of it was fun seeing you, followed by a asking if she had fun too. Doing this tends to give a good indication if she wants to see you again)

Nothing. That’s the problem, really. It was so unbearably awkward. I was just extremely quiet and distant. I told her beforehand that I’m usually really nervous on dates and she said that’s fine, but I still think it was just too much.

That’s actually the problem, kind of. I told her I had fun and I apologized for being so shy and awkward. She said that’s okay and she had a nice time, too. I told her that I’d like to see her again sometime if she’s interested, and... her reply was just, “ Gotcha.”
What does that even mean?

tip, get a rubber band put it on your wrist and snap it when feeling anxious.

Never forget that anxiety is rarely a one-sided affair. The other party might have been just as railroaded by their emotions as you...

I don’t even know how to ask her out!

“ Do you eat food?”
“ Yes....”
“ Do you want to.... eat food.... with me?”
Yeah, I have no idea how to do it either. It just sort of happens.

You definitely did good by telling that! I’m not sure w hat to do with that reply, but I would suggest to ask once more, maybe in a few days, as gotcha isn’t really a confirmation nor denial...

I saw her comment on a post shared by a friend of hers about a movie screening. Thought of starting there because I reckon she'd go.

I have never asked someone out sober. That usually helps.

If it’s any comfort, the last time I went on a date was the Bush administration.
The first one, not the second.
