Any oppos know of any reason that I can’t top up the ranger with BMW coolant? It’s low and BMW coolant is all I've got handy.

Good question. I’d say any coolant is better than no coolant but I don’t know the chemical differences. Maybe try some distilled water?

It's a Ranger, you could use water and it would be fine.

I’d say go for it, shouldn’t really hurt it.

I agree with K-roll. Any coolant is better than no coolant.

I have an E90 and E46 so I’m very familiar with needing BMW coolant, these cars “use” coolant quite a bit normally.
I also have a 93' Ford Ranger 4.0L, and it also “uses” coolant. I have used my BMW coolant in my Ranger many times with no issues. However, I haven’t used the OEM coolant in the Ford for a long time, I am using Prestone coolant that is advertised as compatible with all coolant types .
Just make sure if you use the BMW coolant, that the coolant in your other vehicle has a compatible or “Universal” formula .

There is a risk that your turn signals may stop working...
Hmm maybe BMWs do use separate blinker fluid and the cap is hard to locate

Don’t BMW and VAG use pink?

I’m not sure what’s in there. I could just go with distilled water until I can pick up some Prestone or something. It’s not getting hot I just noticed a burning coolant smell and the resivour looks low.

Not sure I’ve Never had to add on the M3. I’m at my parents house so I’m not even sure how old th coolant is because neither of them have owned a bmw in over a year.

i might just do that and pick up some Prestone while I diagnose. It’s not getting hot I just noticed that it’s low because it smells like coolant

Just go with distilled, don’t mix coolant types is the big rule.
