Well, another Oppo meet in the books. Weather was good but the roads were a bit busy with the long weekend. Everything went pretty well, other than some traffic issues, getting seperated from some of our group and slight mechanical issues.
We met at a Walmart parking lot. I sincerely doubt that Walmart sees many Morgans, AMG’s, 911's or 2JZ swapped Datsuns... Everyone wanted to see and to talk about the Morgan. I followed the Morgan from the meeting point to our first destination and can sincerely say that I have never seen so many people craning their necks for a look.
Clickbaity car is clickbait
Our first stop was Mount Erie in Anacortes. The road was... different than what I expected. Parking was also a challenge for our larger group. Some had to park on pullouts further down the road. I also tried to take pictures of everyone’s car here. I missed tellmewhoyouare’s white Mazda 3 though (hopefully no others).

We did get seperated from 3 of our group, but managed to all meet at our last destination for dinner and beer.

A manual Camry no less

My car feels like the odd duck, looking (somewhat) like an ordinary, uninteresting car out of the bunch here. Maybe I should fix that with a whipple supercharger sticking through the hood...

Do it. Your engine sounds really healthy, I am sure it can handle it.

4.6L Modulars are known for being able to take a ridiculous amount of abuse. One of the main problems though is that they have been known to blow a spark plug, stripping the threads. It is rare, though.
In my opinion, I would personally prefer to just save up for a Gen 3 Coyote and 10-speed automatic transmission (with SelectShift) and drop that into the Queen and keep the 4.6L+4speed as a backup.

Traffic heading back was a breeze. A good trip all in all.

A breeze, yes. Cramped? Yes. I hate Deception Pass for that reason alone, it gives me the willies. What if someone had a heart attack driving across? Instant pileup. (It’s happened before.)

That would be insane. Which means it should be considered.

Also, speaking of engine health, she’s due for an oil change this month. Going in next Friday, and having them change out the rear differential oil at the same time.

It’s already part of the plan. Problem is getting the money...and waiting for supply to match/exceed demand (thus depressing third-party prices). That, and for enough idiot kids on bad credit to total their Mustangs -- cheap engines and transmissions for me!

True. The bridge is pretty, but for me, one of those things that I’ve done enough times. I was thinking more about LaConner onward. I barely had to slow down through Everett, and traffic was light on 405.

What would that cost now? It doesn’t sound cheap.

You care for your things, definitely. It sounded good, I was surprised at the very smooth idle.

About $10,000 for the Engine+Transmission, would need to get wiring harness and ECM/PCM. Then find a shop that’s willing to do the job. That’s another $10,000 on top (commission).
It also bears noting that the alternator for the Coyote is located down low and to the passenger side, unlike the 4.6L, which was placed on top for ease of access and maintenance.

Next meet needs to be more north and less west.
I’ve temporarily relocated myself. A touch further west than where I was, but now I’m at the 56th parallel. And it's now a 14 hour drive to Vancouver.

Make it a six speed Tremec and I’m in.
Your P71 is one of the cleanest I've ever seen. Their getting rare here in Michigan.

A healthy mix of cars but no mustangs?
I'm kinda surprised.

I think it is cool, I liked the juxtaposition of the Morgan in front and I think you were in the rear at the start.
I still really like crown Vics

Oppo meet in Detroit turns into Stang show sometimes.
Kinda glad in a way. Besides it’s almost impossible to top that Morgan.

That’s a big chunk of change, but you love the car and will enjoy it, so if you can afford it, why not. It’d be a pretty amazing project when finished.

The ten speed will have select shift functionality, which effectively makes it a tremec, just still without the clutch pedal. Reason behind it is for the fuel efficiency. I want it to still be a fun car, but manage to be as fuel efficient as the original engine/trans, or better.

Yeah, that’s gonna wait until after I’ve gotten a new daily driver so I don’t have to worry about having no transportation for a couple of weeks.

I’m tempted to do a Fall/Winter/Spring mountain
oppo drive...but that’s SUPER risky, and I’ll only do it once I’ve bought enough recovery equipment and put it into the Crown Vic. Tow straps, ratchets, snow chains, fire extinguisher, tool set, and god only knows what else I’m going to need.

Is this going to be a “forever car” for you?
NKato

That is the goal, indeed. :) In 20 years, I’ll restore it to its original police livery (or a fictional police livery), complete with lights, siren, et cetera, and it will be used at auto shows, autocross/rallycross, and performances.

I am sure people will get a kick out of that, vintage police cars are always popular.
It’s also easier to justify expenses if value isn’t important. I’ve had my old car since 1995, and longterm ownership makes me forget reasonable expenses compared to the value of the car - it’s not an investment, it’s a hobby.

I had a 98 V6 (auto) Camry last year for a while too. Bonus mountain pics cause I clicked the wrong ones.

I should’ve mentioned this sooner. Technically my car is a Mustang. It has a V8 rated for 250 HP, and is the same engine as the 1999-2004 Mustang GT.
AMGtech - now with more recalls!

I’m probably down. I’ll bring the V8 minivan. It's great in snow!

Apologies for missing! The wilderness was calling(and I had to meet people early Saturday for the rest of the weekend to work out). I promise I will make another of these one day soon.
On a side note, if you’d be interested in grabbing a beer I’ll hopefully be up in BC one day this week or next, someone is parting out a Range Rover and I need some interior bits that seem to be on the hard-to-find side.

Will do! I have no idea when it would be, the guy seems to be pretty bad at responding to texts. But I really want to find a headliner board, the bare metal is ridiculously loud. Plus a driver’s door panel would be nice(of course it has all the rest...)

Mind you the zj likely weighs a bunch less than a Vic... I’ve never tried using it as a recovery vehicle yet.

Worst comes to worst, you could strap your ZJ to my Vic's front end.

It’s no testament to my photography skills, it’s a testament to the fact that both Pacific Northwest and the Range Rover Classic have very few bad angles
