I’ve decided to buy a small welder just for some hobby work and to practice since I haven’t done any welding recently. Came across this
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
The ad says he wants $225, BUT.....
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I can buy it brand new for $150.
What’s your guess Oppo; think he overpaid and hopes to find a sucker to buy it from him, or think he fat fingered it and the price listed isn’t what he meant?
I’ve contacted him to find out, but I bet he’ll call me a “lowballer” for not paying more for used than new.

We know what he has, and it is “Craigslist Delusional Syndrome ”. It is an epidemic with no known cure. If you want to join the fight against CDS visit my GoFundMe page. Cash, credit, and interesting trades accepted.

im thinking hes asking a stupid price so the lowball offers are close to what he actually wants
dudes clearly got more patience than me as im a strictly no haggling type

He’s expecting to haggle. I would probably buy new or from someone who has priced appropriately. But if you’re up for a laugh, you might text him with what you’re willing to pay.
What are you willing to pay?

That depends on how much wire he has to include with it actually. Once I know that I’ll throw him a “take it or leave it” number.
I fully expect him to think his $150 welder is still worth $150 since I’d be saving the $12 in sales tax.

Problem is he has set the initial number so high you’ve gotta cut him down by over 50% to even consider it. Dude must think he’ll get someone to pay $145 for his $150 welder. I doubt it’s ever been used since everything’s still wire tied together in one of the pictures, but I bet he sits on it awhile unless he’s unexpectedly reasonable.

Plus he’s real world tested it for you. That ought to be worth something, right?

I’m pretty sure this same welder is sold under a bunch of different names. I’ve seen it sold by Princess Auto up here as a “PowerFist” branded one.

No. MIG stands for “Metal Inert Gas” which is now an obsolete term and has been replaced by GMAW “Gas Metal Arc Welding” this process uses a solid wire electrode and uses shielding gas as a means of protecting the weld zone. Flux Core (FCAW) uses a tubular wire electrode containing flux that creates a s lag covering to protect the weld zone.

Is it wrong that that is one reason I’m interested?

I come across that sort of crap all the time. If it is something I really news, then I'll ask for their real price. If they come back with something stupid again, I'll send them a link to the item for sale brand new and call them out. If they don't budge then I know it is a scam and I'll report them to the proper webmaster for that site.

Don’t go flux core. It’s really not that great. It’s almost impossible to use on sheet metal if you want to learn to do rust repair or other automotive type welding.

This is right up there with people who ask $150 for mid 90's tube TVs.
