The U.S. now isn’t getti ng the Ford Focus at all.

Got me wondering.

When was the peak for bodytypes and choice for the Ford Focus.

From what I gather the-

saloon from 2000-2010,

estate from 2000-2018,

MPV (aka Focus C-Max) 2003-2008 (when it bacame just the C-Max and lost it’s ‘Focus’ prefix,

Convertible hard top (aka C-C) 2007-2010,

of course the hatchback has been around since the start in 1998 but the 3 door has been and gone (the 3 door ended in 2010) .

So when was the peak of which they were all available.

From what I gather, it’s between 2007-2008.

2007 was the transition from the Mk2 to the Mk2 facelift ( aka Mk2.5) .

You did your part, you bought a FiST and enjoyed it a lot.

You just moved on.

It’s Ford that’s letting you (Americans) down.

They could of offered the Focus estate to North America but they didn’t.

Honestly, it’s Ford’s fault for not caring about QC and material quality while everyone else is.

Nah, presently, all they offer is a 5 door hatchback and the estate.

They don’t even offer the 3 door hatchback anymore.

Hmm. Wish that the US had gotten the convertible. The rest...meh.

Other than the RS with head gasket issues I’ve not heard anything (though not really been looking either) wrong with any Fords other than general wear and tear.

Ford made a big mistake by not offering the Mk2 here, especially when we did get the Mazda 3 and Volvo S40/V50 from the same platform

The fit and finish just isn’t very good. On top of that, they just look kind of dated inside. It was too little to late in the US, when you can get nicer Kias.

The Mk2 was a good looking car.

The Mk2.5 (aka Mk2 faceli ft) was a more up to date look.

Not sure if the German-built ones are better, but I am always amazed at how shitty the supposedly “European quality” third gen is over here. The interior plastics literally flex as soon as you so much as prod them with your finger and everything just creaks and rattles. I drove one from Zipcar back to back with a Civic (also from Zipcar) and the ergonomics were not even comparable in favor of the Civic—even with the Honda’s awful volume-knobless infotainment.

Are yours built in China or Germany ?

They’ve been consistent with facelifts.

I’ve not experienced anything other than the softer but firm plastics along the door tops and dashboard top and harder plastics on the cards and centre console.

Softer in the ‘touch’ areas.

I think there may be some build differences like the ones between North American and European VWs.

I had a 2013 (pre-facelift mk3) Focus Wagon  as a company car, in Europe. Manual with a diesel, obviously.

The entertainment system thing was ugly with a those buttons in a pattern of a 2003 mobile phone, and they didn’t have much function either. T he quality issues of the interior you mention certainly weren’t there at all though. It was absolutely fine. Must be the difference between the EU and NA built ones.

The current gen Mondeo (Fusion), the first one that is mostly the same in the US and Europe, has been heavily criticized in Europe for being too American. As in; doesn’t drive as well as it’s direct predecessor and the interior wasn’t a step up either. It was deemed too big as well, if I’m not mistaken .

It wasn’t the distinction between soft and hard plastics that I noticed , it was that the bit of plastic between the CD slot and the control knob literally just flexes downwards if you give it a slight nudge and that big bar down the right part of the console didn’t align with the gearshift housing area and all the buttons were soft-press in a way that didn’t seem pleasant but rather felt like there was something sticky spilled into them. Granted it was a rental car, but the Civic of its ilk was far, far nicer (but again, it is a newer design perhaps.

I’ve never heard, had of felt any issues on the Mk3 or 3.5 Focus hatchback or estates.
