Kinja'd!!!

After getting Mrs. Snuze a new Terrain I find myself longing for a new car.

I still like my Cruze, but it was never my dream car, I got it when I was in college and it was about the nicest thing I could get for my budget. Its also 7 years old. So as we were shopping for a new SUV for her, I found myself looking at new cars for me as well.

It probably would have never crossed my mind but I started noticing some pretty good end of model year deals on entry level Camaros right now. If youd asked me 5+ years ago about a 4 banger in a Camaro I wouldn’t have even considered it. But now its got me intrigued. Its the same engine our Terrain has, and I love it. I can only image it is better with 500 less pounds and a manual transmission. Also fuel economy because I am an adult now and have to worry about stuff like that. I haven’t driven one yet but may try to this weekend.

W hat is the Oppop inion of such a machine?

I’ve never driven one, but it’s been described as an excellent handling car, even when compared to rivals like the mustang.

I don’t think you need an LS to have fun in a Camaro, so by all means, make us all proud and get one.

They should go old-school and offer a non-turbo 4-banger Camaro. Thereby demonstrating commitment to a full range of power options and modern economy concerns.

As a blashpemous 4 cylinder Mustang owner, go for it! Drive both 4 cylinder pony cars and report back your findings. Then test drive a Challenger GT for giggles.

the v6 shouldnt be much more expensive, even better if you can find one with a track pack

if you are looking at the 4 banger the v8 would probably be out of your price range regardless...

resale value is not great to begin with, but it would suck real bad for the 4 banger

I would say go for the V8 or nothing.

But then again I could be biased because I have only driven the V8 versions of the new Camaro and Mustang...

Great car! The T4 and V6 C amaro are r eally underappreciated cars, and as such you can score a great deal. I got a leftover manual V6 RS Camaro for $23k! It’s a really good car, great chassis, and tuneable if you like. Visibility seems bad at first but you get used to it and isn’t that bad.

For 2-door sporty cars, think M: Miata, Mustang, M2, and Mercedes.

I understand the 4 cyl Mustangs and Cameros, but they’re still wrong.

Splurge for the V8. Just do an 84 or 96 month loan if you have to.

I drove my friends with the stick and it wasn’t pretty fun. Great fun as a street car

I test drove one last year, it was meh. Granted it was the base base model. It’s fast but doesn’t feel fast, so what fun is that?

I don’t think I could own one without the V8

there is a guy with a new v6 Camaro with some sort of after market catback I’ve seen a few times around here and it sounds spectacular

I haven’t driven the Camaro, but I’ve had several V-6 Challengers. I grew up in an age where 200 hp was a lot, so the 300 hp pumped out by the Challenger was surprisingly fun. I imagine the baby Camaro is similar.

275 HP, 295ft/lbs, 330lbs, 3300lbs total weight.

But you will be feeding it a constant diet of 91+ (93 pref err ed) and expect the gas mileage to suck.

DO NOT TURN UP THE BOOST. Fuel map to uncork it above 5k is all you need. It does not need more boost.

My first thought was FR-S, but if you can get a good deal on a Camaro go for it if you like it. I am guessing the Camaro is roomier and more comfortable than a FR-S / GT86.

Here’s a rare V6 1LE with 9k miles for $24k. This has everything you want and nothing else. That’s a lot of car for the money.

I used to think that but consider the current turbo 4 is a great engine, and makes as much or more power as previous V8s.

Exactly. I love the GT86 but the Camaro is way cheaper.

Dear god. Don’t EVER finance a car that long. Buy used if you need a lower payment.

Somehow what Im getting out of this is that I should buy a vintage F1 car.  Got it!

Outwards visibility, interior layout (admittedly the camaro’s climate controls on the vent rings are neat) and material feel, trunk accessibility, styling (especially after the latest camaro refresh... Wtf?!) , customer service and dealer experience (anecdotally), overall packaging, brand reputation, and I don’t need a mullet nor vape stick to have a Mustang.

Having not sat in a Mustang I can’t defend against things like visibility and material feel. But I test drove a loaded Ford Edge SEL and it lagged behind literally everything else I looked at except maybe the Surbaru Forester XT Premium in terms of quality, fit and finish . The Ford dealer was pretty good, though they are part of a chain and I’ve delt with their Chevrolet dealer who is equally as good. The dealership experience is so hit and miss so I find that hard to be a credit to the Mustang over the Camaro.

B rand recognition and reputation, as well as mullets and vape sticks are similarly subjective. I’ve heard various things from my redneck family (none of whom currently sport Kentucky waterfalls ) including “Man, I’d like to buy a Chevy but those things are just too good. People buy them and then want to keep ‘ em forever. That’s why I buy Fords, let someone else take that hit buying it new and then when they’re sick of it or it gives them too many problems, I snatch them up cheap!” Also, Found On Road Dead, Fix Or Repair Daily, etc.
