This is the 20 anniversary for the first car my wife and I bought together. A 1998 Green Pearl Metallic Ho nda Civic Sedan EX. It had a 5 speed manual and sunroof and AM/FM radio. The o nly option we got was floor mats .

I thought I’d take t he time to see what I’d buy if I wanted another Civic.

I went with a Civic Sp ort hatchback in Aegean Bl ue.

As for options I chose a few more than I had on the ‘98. I wish it had a sunroof but it has the center mount exhaust so it seems a fair trade.

Going with manual again in their lively Aegean Blu e with Honda sport pack and some useful accessories .

What all is in that HFP package?  $2500 is steep for rotors, badges and floor mats.

I had the 98 for 10 years. It’d be in the top 3 if I was considering a compact hat ch . The other two being a Mazda3 and Elantra GT.

At least on the Si it includes some suspension upgrades.

If I wanted a sporty Civic with a manual I would go for an Si sedan as the Si has a lot of worthwhile sportiness upgrades over the Sport hatch. Namely the LSD and adaptive shocks. Plus it has a sunroof. Civic Sport + HFP package is only like $1k less than the Si sedan.

( There’s no Si hatch because the Si is exclusively made in Canada, but the hatch is exclusively made in England, so Honda doesn’t ship the Si bits to the Civic hatch factory in England.)

If I were getting a Civic hatchback I would go for the EX for the sunroof and it’s only a CVT which is fine for commuter duty.

I felt the sport hatch was a nice compromise. I don’t like sedans so if I’m going for a sporty sedan, I’ll just get another WRX for a couple grand more than the Si .

It’s a dam shame Si bits aren’t sent to England or Canada doesn’t make hatches.
