Anyone here done audio work on E39s?

I h ave questions. I think the tweeters and mids on my doors are st arting to go and I’m having a hard time finding compatibility info. Crutchfiel d doesn’t list anything, and the only specs I  can find on forums is just the size.

Have you found the part on real oem and then googled it to see if you can come up with any info that way?

H ave you tried BAVSOUND for any information? I know they have an upgrade kit for all your speakers, but should be able to purchase new tweeters separately.

I have two e39s, that seems to be the best route. Both mine are dsp, which means weird layouts and impedence s (I’m 99% sure...) , I would not be messing with trying to match speakers. When I do audio I am just going to tear it all out instead of messing with that.

That's part of why I'm seeking help. I have DSP and I don't know enough about how it works. I don't want to buy speakers and then find out they won't work because I need component ones or something.

The big issue is that I have DSP. I don’t really know much about how DSP systems work compared to analogue systems and if having DSP changes  any of the speaker spec requirements.

Not necessarily. the big deal with dsp on these is it runs a special optical connection back directly into the controller/amp. E xcept apparently tape deck - my new m5 has a tape deck which i found changes a few things, 2002 e39 540 has business cd w DSP which I have done a lot of research on and messed with. So the pre-amp stuff is all special with dsp, but the speakers are still normal speakers. It looks like 4ish. That is what most aftermarket stuff will be. If you’re just dropping in speakers the tough part will be getting a nice sounding 3 way without using the included crossovers. see if you can get a set that has bi/tri wire crossovers. Those will also let you attenuate (make quieter/less aggressive) the tweeters

I have Business CD DSP with tape deck.
