My steed for the weekend: a rather battered Suzuki GZ250.
I’m halfway through the MSF course this weekend and having a great time.
I’ve earned the nickname “hotrod” because I was going about twice as fast as everyone else entering the quick stop.
I figure that if I’m supposed to be learning the limit, I’d rather find it in a parking lot with a coach to tell me what I did wro ng than on a busy street with a bunch of people in Suburbans on their c ellphones.

That's sound logic. If only you had a Lincoln to drive away in.

I got the nickname of “Speed Racer” because I did everything at twice the speed of everyone else and did so with a determined and super focused face . :)
I then fully earned it when I had the best possible reaction time and shortest possible stopping distance on the emergency stop for the test. :3

I did my MSF on the same bike almost exactly a year ago. It wasn’t exactly suitable for 6’5” me - I’d hit my knees with the bars if I hugged the tank like I’m supposed to in the tighter maneuvers. Kind of a pain in the ass but I passed so it’s all good.

I’m only 6’-0” but it’s too small for me too.

I did the BRC on those “Harley” Street 500s, which honestly wasn’t a bad teaching bike. I ended up buying a V-Star 250 for a song to ride the first year.
Last year I took the “skilled” rider course at a local dealer, where you bring your own bike. Most of the exercises started out as repeats from the basic rider course, but then chained one or two more together after it. lot different trying to do that stuff on a 700 lb Dyna , especially one you really don’t want to drop :)
one of the area police training agencies offers civilian classes, I think I’m going to sign up for one in april. it’s expensive (you use their bikes) but I have a Street Glide now which is heavier and handles quite differently at low speeds. and those police classes really, really emphasize the very low speed maneuvers.

Yeah, I’m not buying a bike until next year. I’m hoping that after a year some of those new Husqvarna 401s or Yamaha XSR700s show up a little cheaper used.
