On Friday I took the Miata up to Angeles Crest to find some fun roads to go enjoy on my day off. I woke up late, was lazy all morning, and played ultimate frisbee from around 1230-2. So it was a slow start to the day and I didnt end up at Mt Wilson until about 3. This led to a bit of traffic on Angeles Crest Highway since people use it for commuting. But eventually I made it out further past the crowded sections and further off the grid. I continued on through some nice sweepers until I made it to the Mt Wilson Access Road. This little road is one of my favorite canyon roads in the entire Southern California region for a few reasons. It is a single entrance/exit road, theres barely any traffic on a weekday, and it has some of the best technical turns I have found. Plus now it has fresh new pavement to enjoy!

It was truly a beautiful day up there and I just love how quiet it is in the mountains on a weekday. On the weekend you get a lot of people using the area for recreational activities and a lot of traffic going by. But when I was up there, just a few cars had gone by and I was able to make a few passes of the access road unimpeded. Now here is the video and then I will talk about the next canyon road I went to.

After enjoying some canyon runs at Mt Wilson and taking a good bit of time to just relax in the mountain air, I made my way home just after 4pm. On the way home I stopped in La Canada for some disc golf before continuing on to Little Tujunga Canyon Road. This was a road I have heard about but had never made it over there. Well, I think I have found another favorite road to enjoy! Plus the views there at near sunset were just spectacular. I will have to go back sometime and just enjoy some photo opportunities. I didnt stop at all though since I was just enjoying the ride.

Overall a great use of the day and I am excited to head back to Little Tujunga sometime soon. Now it is off to Santa Barbara for a nice relaxing day at the beach!

I wonder what agency uses those comm towers. If that’s still part of LA county I’m sure LASO uses them. I know where the Ventura area comm towers are for Ventura County.

At least he’s out every weekend enjoying the area. I take this place for granted.

I’ve got fantastic roads an hour to my east and a fantastic track (Hallett) an hour to my west. I do get in a weekend backroadtrip twice a year, and make it to the track once or twice a year, but I really need to make it happen more often. Family responsibilities and kids’ activities make it a challenge, but in the immortal words of David E.: “God does not charge us for hours spent driving before breakfast.”

Pretty much all of the radio stations and OTA television are up there for the LA County area. It's an intense amount of towers on that hill.
