I need to do some painting in my house due to having to replace some drywall due to a leak.

So, what do you guys use that you would recommend?

My contractor recommended Sherwin Williams. I’m not against his recommendation, but reviews online (take Consumer Reports, for instance) are only average for most of SW’s line .

Top rated at CR is Behr Marque and Premium Plus, which seems t get decent reviews on Home Depot’s website as well. My contractor said that Behr was garbage.

Valspar is out. It used to be great paint, but something changed a few years back and I haven’t had good success with it.

Glidden is a hard no. I only needed to paint with that one once (or TRY to paint with it) to realize that painting with milk might have worked better.

So, anyone that has done some interior painting recently have a brand you’d use again? Anything to stay away from?

Oh, side note, I’d prime first, particularly since I have new drywall.

I’ve had great luck with Sherwin-Williams’ top- shelf interior paint. Recommended to me by a long-time painter, for what it's worth. I absolutely hate painting, but the difference between the Sherwin-Williams stuff and the cheapo Grocery Store paint I used years ago was night & day

Sherwin Williams, hands down. It’s what my painter uses, what I use when I do myself. Use the Extreme cover if you can (I’m not sure you can buy if not a contractor) and they have a trim paint called snap dry that, no lie, after two coats I was leaning on it in an hour. My painter says the snap dry he’s used quite a bit and its holding well. What I’ve done with it here looks good.

He also raves on their customer service if he has a failure.

I always hated Behr.

Edit: If you are spendy Benjamin Moore.

I’ve always had good luck with behr and whatever ace sells in our town getting the right finish like eggshell or matt or gloss etc that can make a huge difference on how a paint performs.

I’ve used Behr and Benjamin Moore extensively. Both good in my experience .

I’m sure I could do Benjamin Moore as well. But if something else works better for cheaper I should probably go that route.

According to something I just read, Titanium Dioxide is important in paints and the more the paint has, the better it will perform.  Sherwin WIlliams apparently has way more in their paints than any other brand I checked.

I've used Bher burr bear whatever for most of my painting but it smells like a noxious gas sometimes. Sherman Williams I find is more user friendly, I'm using that in my office to see if I like it more.

What’s a few extra VOC’s?  Maybe that could explain certain people’s lighting choices?

I’ve been using Behr Marquee and Premium Plus on my new house. My only complaint is that I'm going with a light color over a darker color in most rooms and it's requiring multiple coats almost everywhere. I think the master bedroom took 4-5 coats. The eggshell sheen is nice, though, and the Marquee ceiling flat gives excellent coverage.

When we repainted my mom’s house, we used Valspar Reserve  with great success. I had one gallon of Valspar Duramax for the kitchen. All three bedrooms, the dining room, and the living room got the reserve.

I’m gonna say SW because that’s what my painter uses, and he’s the best. My walls look great and hold up over time.

SW high end paint is excellent , so is Behr PP. I think pros swear by SW because they offer large contractor discounts and then charge customers retail. Behr (Home Depot) does not offer contractor discounts on paint as far as I know .

We had problems with Sherwin Williams paint. Granted it was eight years ago, but I hate painting, and I REALLY hated painting it five times. I've stuck with Benjamin Moore ever since.
