The brake lights bother me.

Nope, Europe. They require that the brake lights remain visible when the trunk is open meaning the top lights can’t be used for brakes.

I HATE absolutely HATE the lights on the new Mazda CX-5
They make no sense at all. I hate them deeply

thats a US regulation too, tail lights in the US cant be on movable pieces. they all have to be fixed

I’m not so sure. I think it’s just the tail lights and indicators that have to remain visible although there’s not an absolute ban on mounting them on moveable components.
Want to check?
Here you go
, and may the Lord have mercy on your soul reading through that lot.

Cause the big round center is the blinker (which should be the brake lamp) , the brake light is just like 1 single LED chip as is the backup lamp. Making 96 % of the lamp the running lights and the usable lights 4 %. It is all wrong and being st uck in traffic behind a few of these in LA I can tell you they are atrocious to look at.

I have always heard it explained as a European thing. Now that I am thinking about it I can’t recall any American market only cars that put their brake lights on the trunk panel.

The only one I can think of is the Buick cascada but that’s why it has brake lights in the trunk too
![]() 08/22/2018 at 19:34 |

The Buick is just a rebadged Opel - a car targeted entirely at the European market.
