Older customer in the waiting room is having issues getting Spotify on their phone to play on their car’s radio, and after being told its an issue with the APP, and not the RADIO, they asked if ‘we have a phone number for Spotify’
Its an internet based online music streaming service.... I doubt they have a ‘phone number’
(checks google)
Nope. None that I, a non-user, can find easily.

Maybe there’s a Spotify store nearby that he can just pop over to?

How about listening to the radio on the radio?

C: No the appstore wont let me download it, it keeps asking for a password
Me: OK looks like you have to contact the app store support to assis with your password
C: Thats who i called
Me: maam this is your health insurance company, we dont have access to your app store account
C: OK so can you call them and have them reset my password
Me: no maam thats not how that works.

I’m 39 and have never used Spotify. I think I gave up the first time I tried when they only allowed Facebook users. That’s a Hard Nope for me.

I should give them directions to the closest mall....

Same.
Since I have Amazon Prime I just use thier app. I can stream or download to play offline 90% of music I want without buying in to the Unlimited option.

That said, I’m absolutely floored that so many cell phone companies have retail stores everywhere. AND they compete with the company channel (online) but can’t really say that outright. It’s so weird. Occasionally convenient, but mostly weird.

Dude it must suck so much to be old. My grandma has never used a computer nor a phone. She lives on her own, far from us.
I have no idea how she gets through life

I tried it once. Activated a free trial but discovered they didn’t have a webapp for listening (I think? This was a while ago) or I couldn’t log in. Either way I got bored and frustrated and uninstalled it.

Yep, I’m 95% Amazon Prime, 5% Pandora (they have better kids’ options and sometimes better classical). I’m rediscovering terrestrial radio after years away and it’s not half bad if the ads aren’t horrible.

Yeah, unless you’re the CEO, CFO, or CHRO, good luck with that

I’m pretty sure there used to be a Spotify kiosk down on the lower level.. Or was that by Montgomery Wards??? Oh shit, I think it’s at the mall on the other side of town, by Marshall Fields, dammit...

Our generation is going to be the first old people that ‘get it’, I believe.
That, or there’s going to be a HUGE leap forward in everything and we’ll be the ones left in the proverbial dust.

right? working in health insurance made me realize that maybe only 10 percent of the united states actually understand how it works.

At this point, most brick and morta r cell phone stores are third-party owned, they are only authorized to sell, not repair/replace. They’re pretty much useless.

It me. I even have a Sony Walkman to listen to the radio when I’m not in a car

I am a loyal Sirius radio subscriber as long as it’s $5 a month. My wife is a Spotify pro or whatever fan, soon here Mazda will have carplay and that will make it fantastic.

I think we’re better prepared for it, though. We’re more in touch, attached, connected.
We might be okay.
Can’t wait to bump gangsta rap at the old folks home.

I bought an ‘80s Mazda truck from a septua genarian who had installed a Bluetooth radio and hands-free calling and all that in it. First off I have no idea how he heard anything over the factory speakers because engine/road/wind noise is loud as hell, but also I’m impressed because I’m 40 years younger and have never used any of that stuff. The radio is for radio in my cars, and when I want to talk on the phone I use my phone. Maybe that’s why he’s buying a new SUV and I’m going the other way.

One of the owners of a company that I used to work for had a Hotmail account. One day they had a mass outage and he wanted me to call Microsoft and get it fixed. I just nodded, told him I’d get on that, and went back to my office.

I used to have spotify before amazon prime. Now I have not used spotify for ages. I put amazon music on all our phones.

Can they send a rep in a van (who will of course come by sometime between the hours of 9 and 6, so be home!) to install it for a low fee?
I wouldn’t be surprised if tech companies start offering such services soon, that’s the level of “innovation” many of the techbros seem to be coming up with lately.

All the political debates about insurance in general makes that clear. It’s as if the concept of pooling insurance risk is completely foreign. Hurr durr, why should I pay for someone else’s vasectomy ?!

The problem is that “it” is constantly changing. Eventually, what you’re with is no longer “it” and what is “it” is weird and scary.
I’m in my early 30s, and I’m already there. I don’t recognize half the people that are supposed to be current celebrities, and a store I was in recently was playing a modern country music station and I felt like my ears were going to bleed.

And they once needed a big interactive display and a filmstrip to teach people how to use touch tone dialing.

Tried Amazon prime, Pandora’s got a much better algorithm for picking music. And it’s free. Never tried spotify. On a long trip, I might put an MP3 player on the FM transmitter, otherwise I’ll just listen to the radio and get mad at the shit they play *rabble, rabble *
![]() 08/21/2018 at 21:58 |

Yep, but Pandora has ads and you can’t go backwards to replay tracks . I consider Amazon free because I pay $99/year for the shipping and streaming, the rest is just a bonus. It’s a good source for when you want to go listen to a specific album vs a genre (where Pandora is better).
My $.02

Yeah, I still listen to the radio, so an ad every once in a while and not going back isn’t that big a deal. Sometimes I’ll catch a song I haven’t heard and try and listen again, then figure “oh well, I’ll hear it again at some point”. I don’t have prime, mainly because you can still get the other benefits without it (most stuff is free shipping anyway) , and have netflix where you don’t have to worry about accidentally buying a $20 movie because your finger got too close to the screen. I also don’t like to listen to the same artist several times in a row (like an album), I’d rather a variety of similar artists.

Well, I feel his pain. Back in the olden days (1970’s and earlier) cars tended to break down a lot more often, even when they were new. Vapor lock, carbs out of adjustment, etc.
Things broke and you took them in to get fixed. You called Tony about your Dodge Aspen’s rough idle and Tony fixed it
Now car makers have figured out how to make them mechanically reliable and no one calls Tony any more
But it’s come back to haunt us in terrible, ever changing, user annoying, apps, and mobile phones that all have the usability and synergy of a 2 barrel carb and rusty throttle linkage it works until it doesn’t and most people hust want to call Tony to fix it. I n the old days it was either broken or fixed
Now it might be - reset the device, reload the drivers, reload the latest version of the phone app, take it to the dealer for a flash update of the in-car app, get a new charging cable, learn the new interface to the app, throw phone out the window
Hell, I work in IT and most car technology integrations suck
Can’t I just call Tony?
