Haven’t laid eyes on the car in over a week. I parked it in my friend’s 4 car garage on Monday of last week. Meant to get it out this weekend and swap radios and coolant tanks and ended up not having time. So, it just sits.

We are going camping to a site this weekend about 30 miles away and I’m half tempted to drive it. It made the 45 mile drive home to my house okay, after all.

Right now, she’s parked in my friend’s garage next to his ‘65 Acadian Beaumont.

Sure is clean!

I shared an apartment with a guy who had a similar era Cavalier. I could never imagine going to a dealership,  test driving that particular vehicle and then coming to the conclusion that it was a car I would spend money on. Of course his was ridden hard and put up wet and had endured many a misadventure.

Why would you be worried about taking a 45mi trip in it?

Did I miss something?

Just because it’s old and it sat for so long (drove an average of 2k miles per year its  whole life). I’d hate to break down in the middle of nowhere Kentucky.

Isn’t all of Kentucky the middle of nowhere?

Eh, I’d say 85% yes. The rest is Louisville and/or Lexington .

Ha! Well enjoy. I would take the car on ever increasing circular cruises until you are pretty sure nothing will give up on you. I would also replace radiator hoses and things like that, but I am bored and have a lot of free time.

That really is a clean car.  It’s wild to see one.  They are one of those cars that used to be all over and then it was like a switch was thrown and they all disappeared at once.

One good thing: it has a new radiator and hoses! The only thing left to replace is the coolant reservoir, which I’m doing this week.

Eh, when we bought the “race” van it had sat untouched for 6 yrs. I changed all the fluid/filters the day we brought it home, then took a 4.5 hr road trip that weekend.

As long as you check everything and replace questionable parts, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Go back in time and compare with the other American choices...

I would not have purchased an American car during those sad, dark years. Compare those American choices to the Japanese choices and there wasn't much of a decision to make.
