Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Last week, Austin police killed a guy who they say was running towards them with a gun. The news article said, “ Eight officers ended up firing weapons, and one fired a stun gun.” I’m still figuring out how that went down, and if the one cop shot the taser once the guy was on the ground.

It does look terribly dangerous... If his head had hit the curb at the correct angle... Guess it all depends what crime he’d just committed.

I guess it should depend on if he’s an active ph ysical (lethal?) threat or not. If not it’s not a form of ( self) defense , so you could argue it’s attempted manslaughter (i s that the correct English wording? ) committed by  the police officer.

Right. If he’s just seriously injured someone, or committed an armed robbery, I’d say it’s warranted. If he’s running from a petty theft or a traffic stop, this is way too dangerous a tactic to use.

He was gaining on him. He could’ve gotten a hold of him and taken him to ground without risking the perp’s life in the process.

I’m not making excuses for the guy running. He should have followed the orders to stop and submit, but it imperative on the LEO to not act recklessly with a fleeing criminal’s life.
