Wife and I are going to be on Canadian side of Niagara falls next year. I debated taking a drive through Canada and pop out in Detroit (~4 hour drive). I checked some images on google and it doesn’t look very impressive.
Cars were allegedly built there forever but I see nothing other than that huge GM building.
Anything carsy to see out there? Anything a MUST see? I don’t care about sports so I am not going to see tigers or whoever.
Yes. I know it’s a city in shambles. I am willing to take a shot and see it if it’s worth seeing.

You can stop by the Henry ford museum in Dearborn. I’m sure there are other cool things to do in Detroit, but not sure if they’re worth a specific 4 hour drive to come and do. I’m only 1/2 hour away, and I still don’t make a special trip to do stuff in the city. I work in Detroit, so by days end, I just want to get home. I have a coworker that lives in Detroit and always finds fun stuff to do, but again, not worth 4 hour drive fun.
You could always cruise Woodward, there will still be a handful of cool cars out and about on any given night.
My wife and I really love Niagara and make the trek once a year or once every two years to visit and sight see. I’d rather kill another day in Niagara. And if you’re a wine person, there is Niagara-on-the lake that has vinyards. My brother in law just came back from a trip we’re they ended up staying at a vineyard for a couple extra nights because it was so nice. A bit pricey, but nice.

The Henry Ford museum and Greenfield village are fantastic.
Detroit is just a shell of it's former self. Life long Michigan resident and I just try to stay away from there. Even though I can see the Gm Ren cen from my work.
Don’t know if it’s worth a 4 hour drive thru a very boring part of Canada.

Thanks for the tip.
I live near NYC and there is tons to do but when you work and live near there, you just want to get away from the crazies and tourists. I hear you on not wanting to hang out there.
Maybe we will just hang out extra at Niagara falls then. One way or another we are going to end up in Eire PA so just a matter if we want to take a 2 hour drive or 8.

Sounds exactly like the previous comment. I guess it’s not worth it at all then. I dont know that a museum is worth 8 hour drive (gonna end up in Eirie PA)

Detroit downtown is a thriving city. There are a lot of things to do. Stop in new Baltimore on your way through and grab a Worlds Finest Frozen Custard.

Yeah, as far as parts of Canada to drive through go, there aren’t a ton more boring than that one...
Ford Museum is freaking cool. The Rouge plant is also cool, though IMO the best parts are blocked off and it’s not a total must-see. There’s also
this place
which wasn’t too bad. Not super special, but definitely some interesting stuff. One section dedicated to cars, because of course. It wasn’t boring.

D ouble back to Rochester. It’s a beautiful city only 20 minutes off 90. Not so much carsy but plenty of lovely areas with art/history/good food/the lake is an awesome place to chill /swim. I’d take it a thousand times over Erie pa a nd I spent a lot of time in both. Moved away from that area a while ago but Wednesday has an excellent car show at a place called the log cabin just outside of town. Typically several hundred cars and a couple hundred bikes. Here a list of all the car shows can’t attest for all of them but if you passing by at the right time give one a try. http://www.streetmachinesofrochester.com/cruise-nights/

wow, your research is amazingly extensive. I wouldn’t bother; I don’t think anything here would measure up to your lofty expectations.

I’d say if you can time it right attend the Woodward Dream Cruise (it was just this past weekend) Just look at some of David Tracy’s articles, it’s nuts. If you can’t make that the Henry Ford is one of the best car/ transportation / and industry museums in the country. I think there is a Hudson museum in Ypsilanti. The thing about this area is everything is spread out. Sure check out right down town. I hear there are some cool bars and good restaurants but if you want car stuff you want to visit ‘Metro Detroit’

I think the Chernobyl section of town would be neat to explore.
Just don’t get shot. Or get
attacked by zombie dogs. Or get into any rap battles that you

For a 4 hour drive maybe not. If you were closer, I’d say sure! Tons of fun things to do in the city, amazing restaurants, bars, breweries, distilleries, museums, statues among other things. Venture around Metro Detroit and there are even more of the above. It’s a big city (on the very small side, but still), so there is city stuff to do.
On the other side, you’re not very far from the Finger Lakes. If you’re into wine, head there and enjoy yourselves. Niagara on the Lake has some really good wineries as well.

REALLY depends on what you like. Drinks, techno, cars, hidden places? You’ll love it. Really like your suburb? You won’t understand why anyone lives here.
Theres La Dolce Vita if you want some old school great wine/food. Tak oi if you want some blade runner style Asian fusion. Jumbo’s or Bumbo’s if you just want a damn beer and a friendly bartender. The Piquette plant is great low-key museum with cool history, its where they made the Model T before the assembly line was invented.
If you want the new bar experience there is The Belt, but other cities do that better so I wouldn’t come for that.
If you have any specific questions, I don’t mind answering.

my research is being done by the crowd on oppo. I now know there is few things id like to see. However, google images on google map are terrible and show nothing but GM building 18 times and home depot 12.

The top one is the woodward dream cruise, w hich happened last week. Its the largest one day car show in the world and completely free
Second one might be the M1 Concourse, not sure though.
Bottom one is probably the Henry Ford Museum. It has one of the most impressive car collections in the world.

Yeah, Niagara is so much more scenic and you can kill a whole day just walking around. If it were right on your way then sure, but to go out of your way, I’d have to say it’s not worth the effort.
