That a Nissan Versa’s doors will lock even with the key in the ignition and engine running.

....Don’t most cars do this?

Every car I owned in the last 20 years would do that except for my current car which is push button. Even My wife’s 2011 Elantra does that.

Edit.

I guess that wasn't the point of your post, you meant learnt since you locked yourself out of a running car. Couldn't say that never happened to me before.

If I had a versa, I'd lock the keys in it and walk away, too.

My Jag would sooner let you die than lock those doors. “Is my door pull frayed?” “Fuck you. Power to the doors. Go ahead, mother fucker, lock them and then open them. Let’s go. Did you ever see the devil dance in the pale moon light?”

My Miata will lock those suckers in thirty seconds, because it thinks it’s a feature. I’d like to put shit in the trunk before you assume I accidentally hit the lock button, mother fucker.

Side note: I’ve rented two cars domestically: a Versa and a Challenger. Oh. My. God. Fuck both of those things. I’m sure rental versions suck more than necessary, but the fact that that is possible? Die in a fire.

But did you learn how many strikes it takes to break out the window?

I had a rental Challenger once. I thought it was pretty good for a 2005 car in 2013.

It definitely had the bonus of making me feel like a fuckwit without all of the car.

ha - I did that with my old Nissan pickup.  Stopped at the bank and left it running.  Ran about a mile back to the apartment to get the 2nd key.... and the truck was still sitting there when I got back.

Most cars do. Had the engine been turned off, they likely wouldn’t have locked .

A buddy of mine did this with his 2013-ish Grand Caravan. Had to run a few blocks home and get the second set of keys.

He made sure he told the daycare provider he would be right back, and that the AC was on in the car so his daughter in the car seat would be OK.

But how, exactly? I’m sure I can’t do that via my driver’s door. But I wonder about the passenger’s side...

I do know if you lock my car with the keyfob remote you cannot unlock it from the inside at all.

I’ve recently learned that a ND MX5 will not let you lock the car with the keys still inside. For that moment when they accidentally slide out of your pocket and you dont notice.

Also the car won’t let you pop the trunk from the bumper button  without having the keys on you by the rear of the car. For that moment when they accidentally slide out of your pocket and you dont notice.

Both are disconcerting until you realize “oh fuck, where are my keys? ”

My So ls tice does that too. But that’s simply because it doesn’t have a power lock button, that would be on you to push down on the lock.

It does  however have power locks via keyless.
