Probably should have asked for advice before I posted my CL ad but better late than never. I’ m in a tough spot because of where I live, aka no market, so I can’t help but feel that selling my MINI for a fair price is going to be near impossible. It’s not like I need to sell it either, I had always been planning on turning it into my autocross car, but I really just didn’t enjoy autocrossing with it.
Anyways, let me know if you guys have any advice for selling a car with virtually no market! Thanks.

You want to 100% make sure that people know what you have and you are not interested in tire kickers.
Cover your plates with your finger when taking pics.
That’s all I can provide.

list it as best offer + shipping
thats all i got
people further afield will be interested if they know you will take care of shipping... even if they pay for it

lots of pics. list all the problems, not doing so only wastes your time. list the VIN so they can carfax.
post your ad here, for the free share and for us to assess.

You should also clarify whether or not lowballers should contact you. Lowballers like to know that - so that they only contact sellers who are looking for lowball offers, and don’t waste the time of those who are not.

Make it cheap enough and post it to facebook’s marketplace and it’ll sell... maybe...
*Source: tried to sell a PT Cruiser with a stick last summer. It didn’t go well.

Telling everyone who will listen/read this posting that you are going to struggle and there is no market is bad salesmanship.
I would specifically target this at people going to college. Not explicitly stating this in title or ad , targeting. If you present yourself as a stable adult unlikely to be offputting to any buyer it will attract older people looking for a fun car as well.
Good luck

Be patient. And this is going to sound strange but honestly don’t put every single detail in your ad; you keep away more casual buyers from my experience . Put the top 3-5 good things and 2-3 bad things and then invite them to come take a look. Start with CL and Facebook; go to forums and pay sites if needed.

Just curious why you didn't enjoy autocrossing it? Seems like a perfect choice, I mean besides the miata.

Add a lot of keywords at the bottom of your ad that have absolutely nothing to do with your car.

The ad definitely needs to be framed in with reminders you do not need help selling as well as any other low level unenforceable threats you feel compelled to ward off buyers through the inclusion of.

Take lots of good pictures.
This was the lede photo when I sold my beater Jeep. Got a grand for it, which isn’t bad considering it was a 2wd with 260k, no AC, and an oil leak

Linked to the ad in my post yesterday, i ts really nothing great. VIN is listed and not that its really an issue but there really isn’t anything to disclose with problems. Biggest two are the tires only have about 10k left in them which I feel isn’t necessary to bring up as its not like they’re going to need to be replaced immediately, and the passenger airbag light is on because a shop that worked on it took the seat out without disconnecting the battery.

I honestly think it’s because it was too easy and not engaging enough. I was able to consistently drive it on the limit and it just felt, meh. T he funny thing is, I really love driving it on the street.

Can you get that large stain out of the rear seat? You don’t have a particularly rare or deairable car and the resale value is low. You should make it look at immaculate as possible, within reason.

I’ve tried everything short of a professional cleaning for the interior and for the prices I’ve been quoted its just not worth it. And my issue is that I know what the car is worth in the MINI circle but to the general population they’re going to compare it to a similar car they’ve seen advertised and assume I’ m overpriced.
I’ve had a few forum members contact me about it saying that my realistic price point is spot on but there’s just too many of them closer to where they are to justify trekking out for mine.

Could consider lowering your price to be done with it. I know leaving money on the table isn't a pleasant thought, but if you want it gone, or need money now, or your wife is not happy, or you don't want to pay for another month's insurance...

List it on North American Motoring. That’s probably your best place to start when selling a Mini.

#iknowwhatigot is mandatory.

And that’s really where my issue is. I don’t need to sell it, it’s not costing me that much, I would just like a different car that I can autocross or track.
I’m sure I could have it gone soon enough if I took $4-4.5k for it, but taking $1-1.5k less than its really worth just to get rid of it? So for the time being I guess I’m content just sitting on it until the right person comes along.

It’ll be going up there shortly, I actually posted a feeler thread for it about a month ago and it was met with, good/fair price just too far away.

Then just wait. I didn't see anything wrong with your ad. Although I'm not exactly a skilled car salesman...

Have you checked what Carmax will give you for it? Even if you don’t go through with it, getting their value on it makes for a good price floor.

Neither am I, haha, hence why I’m here.

Nearest CarMax is 2.5 hours away but if I go there I’ll check. I have a feeling they’d probably offer $2k at best, maybe $2.5 if I’m really lucky.

Damn, you weren't kidding about having nothing around you. Can you throw a football from your house into NM?

Haha not quite, I could easily get a golf ball over there though

I guess I get it. A lot of STI owners spend a lot of money and time upgrading their cars to start doing HPDE’s, but once they do a couple they don’t enjoy it anymore. Because they tend to reach the limit, the car understeers, and they roll off the throttle to get traction again. It’s just not as satisfying as a RWD car that ca n swing the tail out.

LOTS of pictures, even of the flaws. Post on the MINI forum as well, and Autotrader.

Thats definitely along the lines of where I am. I can get pretty crazy amounts of lift off oversteer but you don't have to do anything other than get back on the throttle to correct it. I'm used to we'll set up 318ti that has no power but is ridiculously stiff and takes a lot more finessing to drive fast.
