The HQ for Mercedes-Benz US International has been operating in a small town just a little west of me for just over 20 years now. They opened in order to manufacture the original M-Class back in the mid-90s, and originally, their in-house “museum” reflected that. There was a time when the most interesting thing in the museum was a screen-used Mercedes-Benz ML320 from The Lost World: Jurassic Park. But that has all changed.

Recently, MBUSI’s facility was renovated, and the museum was transformed from focusing on the vehicles built in Alabama to Mercedes-Benz as a whole. I had been meaning to make a visit, but hadn’t gotten the chance...up until last Friday, that is. I was thoroughly impressed.

The DTM car is not a C43. M-B didn’t really gi ve it any proper name so it’s just DTM AMG Mercedes C-Klasse, Mercedes-Benz C-Class DTM or something similar .

Those are powered by a 2.5 liter V6 that gives the m aximum power at 12,000 rpm . It’s pretty unique engine used solely in DTM cars but it’s “ v ery loosely based on the 4.2 litre V8 used in the E 420 and S 420 models, the new engine used a V-angle of 90 degrees” (according to Ultimatecarpage) .

Well heck, I’m in Florence. I knew there were a few AL people around here; didn’t know you were one of them.

I’m pretty certain it said “C43” on the placard, but it could have been wrong.

I remember going on a class field trip at some point between 1998 and 2001 (were they still called field trips if it was during High School?) . You’re 100% right, the only thing interesting was the screen used M Class. Man, that place has changed. Might be worth going back next time I’m in town.
