Kinja'd!!!

More than just a few days of racing, this weekend every year signifies the coming together of a large family. The fastest 4 cylinder cars in existence all converge upon the grounds of Norwalk Ohio; they are joined by the monsters we know as the R35 GTR.

1320video was there to cover the event for the first time, be sure to check them out!

The Mustang Cobra is the former “Cornsnake” I wrote a separate article on. The Challenger and white 2g both belong to Nathan and obviously the Mirage explains itself.

These were some basic pics I took. Videos will be up soon.

Of course:

Kinja'd!!!

The Red Demon. Needs no explanation.

It’s definitely a legend in the community. It just works and works well :) unfortunately he had an issue coming off the line against Trevor Holland and got eliminated

Dear Ford,

Hi there. I was just wondering if you folks have happen to hear of a custom built Mustang named “The Hoonicorn”?

If you could build a rear-bias AWD 8 cylinder Mustang offering , that would be great.

Signed,

Cars & Coffee By standers.

They’re really popular on drag cars. Small drag brake kits that I assume have that shape for some specific reason. I’m not sure what that reason is. What I do know is that those brakes see some insane abuse. He was routinely trapping 215mph lol

It’s worth taking off to go. I’ve been to so many events at this point, and not a single one of them could ever compare to the DSM Shootout. There’s just nothing even close.

As far as jack stands I had a good laugh after reviewing the picture and noticing that. It was ironically very reliable up until the last heat when something went wrong. But 80+ PSI and over 1800hp have a way of doing that.

Ahhhhh! So glad you asked!

Ran high 9s and had a 4g63 swap. How about that!?! I was in love.

I went to an all-one-make event once. Hated it.

I like diversity.

Al though since it seems like there were more than JUST DSMs there I could give it a pass.

None of those present yesterday. However; there were 3 fox body mustangs with 4g63 swaps. Those are nothing to mess with.

DSMs, mirages, Colts, EVOs, GVR4s, 3kgts, GTRs and absolutely anything a 4g63 is swapped into :)

I feel like it would have been able to run faster had they just cranked up the 6G72?????

Why in the hell would you swap out a capable, more powerful engine for a capable, less powerful one?

Because the 6g72 is far less capable. There’s never been but one 8 second example. 4g motors are plentiful in the 6s and 7s.

6G72 is capable of well over 600hp on stock internals, while making more torque over a wider range than the 4g63.

Build one and it’ll easily break 1000hp.

That’s definitely true, but pushing it further isn’t as easy as you may think. That’s the rough limit of the stock bottom end. Meanwhile a good friend of mine is knocking down over 800whp on an original 6 bolt stock bottom end.

The 6g72 is phenomenal, and I love it. But it’s a complicated and expensive engine to build. The 4g63 is FAAAAR more proven for drag racing, and is far cheaper to build. It’s also lighter.

I still say for a wicked street car with a big budget a 6 speed 3000gt VR4 is the king build. I’ll always say that. My brother had built a stealth RT AWD up pretty nice and it was a very awesome car. I’ve always had love for the 6g72, it just hasn’t ever accomplished anything in drag racing.

Pushing one further requires the same work as pushing any engine. Stronger internals, bigger turbos, more fuel, etc. For big power going to a large single turbo would be the cheaper/less complicated route.

The SOHC 12 V NA 6G72 has made 550whp on stock internals and almost stock fuel , I would expect the DOHC 24V Turbo 6G72 to be able to make far more than that on stock internals . They can be built for very little money if a person knows what they’re doing. Big problem is people shoot them down right away or do a motor swap and end up spending more to get less power and torque in the long run.

The thing is this though, everyone says they’ll make this big powe, we all know they’ll make it, but rarely does it occur unfortunately. Even more rarely do they ever do anything at the track. :(

I know a few guys making 500whp on stock internal 12V 6G72s. One of which runs 10s in the quarter, the rest just have them for fun.

I agree though, far too many people have plans to do so, they just never get around to it.

Spirits and a Sundance.

The Sundance pulled 550whp on stock internals before a failing FPR cooked the engine when it fell lean mid dyno pull. IIRC he got the car into the 10s on slicks with that setup. Prior he was running under 500whp and putting down consistent low 11s.
