Go find some Nazis and punch them in the face. Should be pretty easy since they’re all like 93 years old now.

Driving the length of Ruta 40 would be epic. I’ve been to a few places along that route and they’re stunning.

Is this the route that the Top Gear boys took and then had to turn back due to oxygen depletion?

I think that was the Bolivia special, where they tried a direct route across the Altiplano, but were forced to turn back.

Oh, and this is one of the places I visited, too - El Calafate and El Chalten . 15/10 would recommend.

Yeah, I’m just outside of Chicago, so fellow flatlander here. Wish there were mountains closer to me, too.
We spent 2 weeks in Argentina a few years ago. Fantastic trip, we spent time in Buenos Aires, Mendoza ( winery tours), San Carlos de Bariloche ( northern Patagonia), and El Chalten/ El Calafate). Spectacular hiking in Patagonia, including a glacier hike, and hiking around Mt Fitz Roy/ Cerro Torre. HIGHLY recommend.

Getting there is long and expensive. 1 0 hours from Miami to BA, and El Calafate is about a 3 hours jet flight further south.
But once you’re there, everything is really cheap.

Well, Southern Patagonia is one of the most beautiful places on earth - definitely bucket list-worthy! The one downside is that the winds howl - almost all the time. We caught a few breaks while we were there, but 30-40 mph coming off the mountains is *typical*. Our hotel in El Chalten was on top of a small hill, and the howling of the wind was so loud at night, it was a little hard to sleep.
Thankfully, they were light during our hikes - there were a few spots where we were scrambling up rocks that would have been quite difficult in 40 mph winds. Plus, if you’ve ever been out for an extended period of time in winds that strong, you know that the wind strips away your ‘comfort zone’, and puts you in a bad mood.
