My wife’s 2001 Toyota Echo hit a nice milestone today. Certainly not an exciting car, but it gets great gas mileage and has been very reliable.

Wow, someone was able to sit in those seats to do 333333 miles

Meanwhile, around here every 2001 echo was off the road by 2011, not due to mechanical problems, but because there was nothing left beyond an engine sitting in a pile of rust with some tires on it.

I am impressed and envious. I hope I can make my car last that long, but I bought it at all 167,000 miles and the POs did not take good care of it.

Love the Echo, shame the US never got the hatch.

We got this one at 88k miles. It had been well cared for. My only gripes are that  the seats aren’t very comfortable and that the A/C compressors are weak.  Ours died (the second time) last year.  Now it would cost more that the car is worth to fix it.  Makes summers in SWMO suck.

Agreed.  The hatch would have been nice.

Worst seats my ass ever touched. My ex had a 2003 and I hated that car. All I had to do to it was oil changes. The thing didn’t want to die. So that is why she is my ex*

*not actually about the car...

but the echo hatch was only an echo in name since this was actualy a vitz that was named echo hatch in 2003 in Canada then in 2005 it was replaced by the nex gen vitz and renamed Yaris. Which you guy got too.

The non hatches were Platz then the Belta, then the Vios then mazda2

That’s pretty amazing even for a Toyota. Especially w hen you consider the cost cutting Toyota had to do to kept the price down. You could not do that in a Versa or Chevy Spark.

I used to do deliveries in an Echo. It was old, beat to shit, having spent it’s entire life getting slammed around Saskatoon. We were actively encouraged to drive it as absolutely hard as with we could (within the confines of the law) in hopes that it would die so we could replace it.

It just wouldn't die though.

Good seat cushions are a back saver. I am surprised at how bad some economy car seats are (wife’s Saturn Ion).

Yes, we did get the Yaris hatch. But still, the Echo hatch looks awesome and it’s still a shame we didn’t get it.

Toyota makes the best cars, and the Echo is so awesome, too. Cute lil fun car with low operating costs that people hate on for no reason!

It cost less to operate that Echo for 333,333 miles than it does for a European car to run for 60k!

Yup, totally agree, the Echo is awesome, but would have been even better if we got the hatch! At least Canada got it, so it should be easy enough to register it down here.
