So I was going to get the Sony XAV-AX100, and when I left home this morning I told the Mrs to order one I had found on Bestbuy.com on an open box special marked down to $300. After dropping the kiddo off at daycare I thought I’d stop by Fry’s electronics to peruse their selection of kitchen appliances. While I was there, I decided to walk through the automotive section and that's when I saw it- the XAV-AX200 (same as the 100, but with a CD/DVD player) with a seemingly too-good-to-be-true price: $328, marked down from $450! The promo was actually expired, but since the tag was still on it, they honored the price. I just installed it, and so far I love it! Now to find an extremely long single channel RCA cable so I can install the backup camera...

Nice. Honestly I’m surprised anytime a see a car that actually has a standard double-DIN head unit slot (though IIRC, you had to work for yours?)

Jeep JK has a double din

Yep. GMT800 trucks didn’t get a double din until 2003. Mines a 2001. Swapping just takes a new bezel, radio bracket, some cutting, and relocation and spacing of the HVAC controls. Then the ‘01 12v plugs interfere with the bezel, and the bezel overpaid like overlaps the lower dash trim, so back to the junkyard for an ‘03+ console and lower dash. It was an ordeal, but worth it. I plan to keep this truck for a long time.

Looks great! I love stumbling on a random good deal it’s so rare these days.

I’ve been shopping for one of these for about 7 months. They never go on sale!

Fry’s kicks ass.
Always have great deals, honor all promos, and offer great warranties. Definitely prefer them over other electronics stores.

I had originally dismissed them because their online price was $50 higher than everyone else!
I do love that they're one of the only places with a good automotive electronics section. Best Buy has about 3 radios and a pair of speakers.

Nice, I wish I had double-DIN real estate to play with.

Looks like a physical volume knob too. Friend of mine replaced his pretty nice O EM N akamichi stereo with a fancy Carplay t ouchscreen one to the tune of $800.... Volume is controlled via on screen sliders that you have to open a separate menu to access, and the only physical button on the unit controls—wait for it—a radio frequency s can function. It's painful to see him interact with the U.I., I'm giving it another month before he yanks the new unit out.

The knob, the lack of ugly piano black plastic, and the lack of bl oaty mcbloatface “features” really sold this unit for me.

I would like something along those lines in my CRV, I have the original with tape deck! I did get my electrical issue in my Mercedes sorted so my radio works after a couple years, it’s been so long! I basically listen to NPR though. I tried to find a deck with a removable face that didn’t look like it was from Star Trek, I thought this one looked somewhat ok in the car.

I’ve noticed they do that.
They’ll advertise either the same or a little higher, but when you’re with an employee, they’re willing to make a deal. i’m sure it’s commission based as opposed to best buy who don’t give two shits to learn the product or learn to sell it to you, at least.

If you already have or can only find normal dual RCA cables you can just split them.
I wish I lived near Fry’s. I got the AX100 on sale at Newegg for $300 after watching Fry’s have it on sale (in store only) for $250. The deal would pop up every 6-8 weeks . Of course after I bought it Fry’s started offering the deal online with free shipping .
Once you buy something you should really disable deal alerts.
