Let’s say, hypothetically, you live in Texas, which is also in America, and like most Texans you drive a pickup (a dark-colored, mid-90s, quad-cab F150 with a side-exit exhaust, perhaps)...

And in the bed of this pickup you’ve mounted a flagpole, a moderately sized one, nothing that will get stuck in the DQ drive-thru of anything; and in this pole you fly the American flag. But not any American flag, but the black & white one with a colored stripe in the middle, divided red and blue...

OBviously, your love of America runs deep, if you are so compelled to fly such a banner on your vehicle. Your admiration for those who serve your country must swell within you so much that you can’t help but show the world...

But wait a sec, what’s that sticker on your rear window? Strange character holding a scimitar and wheels where his feet should be, and curved text above reading “11th Panzer”...

You inbred, chucklefuck, Nazi shit-stain... Our grandfathers sucked mustard gas and ate bullets for your fuckwit waste-of-space existence, and you show your “pride” in this country by celebrating the fucking enemy?

I saw this hypothetical individual this morning, and I just can’t let it go. I hope he wraps his truck around a power pole.

EDIT: Here’s an article on the 11th Panzer that I found; haven’t read it yet, but I plan to. Maybe I’m missing something in their history.

It’s entirely possible (though possibly unlinkely)  he is referring to a World of Tanks clan as well.

1984 isn’t my favorite dystopian future novel (that would be Fahrenheit 451) but the idea of Doublethink is spot on.

And doublethink is everrrryyyywhere right now.

Fun fact: a carbide-tipped metal scorer will do a lot of damage on a pick-up in New Jersey with a confederate flag. Not that I know this personally.

Most nationalist parties/groups do hew rather closely to the same attitudes as the Nazi Party. ergo, look up Ultra Nationalists in Russia. They are fucking nasty.

I admit, that is a possibility; I also admit that I don’t care. In the best case, he’s ignorant of the fact that his video game team of choice is the German Wehrmacht, in a game about a well known   war.

There's a fine line between patriotism and jingoism too.

“The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.”

I’m extremely patriotic and legitimately believe that the U.S. is the bomb diggity, but these tweedlefucks with tattered, filthy flags flapping around on the backs of their awful bro trucks really piss me off.

Naziism aside...

Do you know why it says right fender? Why not the left?

I believe it is the common practice for diplomatic and military vehicles, personal and organizational flags are displayed on the left.

I’m not super patriotic, but bad flag etiquette has become a recent hangup for me. And I see so much bad flat etiquette lately.

Regardless , this guy wasn’t flying an American flag, per se, though I think a stylized version of the American flag that promotes a personal opinion is probably listed in the rules somewhere as something not to do.

Maybe it was subtle highbrow comedy about not getting involved in a land war in Asia? Especially in winter?

The logo you described doesn’t match the historical record. Someone else mentioned that maybe it’s a game reference?

Every generation of my family has served in the military, and I've done quite a bit of traveling and I've seen some flat out awful places. The US has done a great deal to improve life for a lot of people around the globe, and a lot of men have died to make it a great place. I didn't used be patriotic at all, but the older I get the more I love my country and what it stands for.

I can respect that. I don’t begrudge anyone their own feelings of patriotism and pride, and just because I don’t feel the same doesn’t mean that I think ill of the US or what good we have accomplished, or my respect for those who’ve sacrificed for that good.
