he's glad that the mustang is known for losing control and injuring people and itself? I mean yeah I know it's the driver's fault, but he shouldn't be proud fo the stereotype/image of the car in that sense.

Nah, I’m pretty sure he means “meme” in the broad, literal sense- as a cultural touchstone, not an internet joke. Most people nowadays will think of the car first when they hear “Mustang” , rather than of the fighter plane or horse. He’s referring to that cultural effect.
But his use of the term “meme” is a two-edged sword. Because the term’ s secondary meaning as a popular joke has, to some extent, become more prominent than the traditional definition.
