Time for a Fiat!

“But”, those who know their Fiats a little will say, “there was never a 138".

“But”, those who really know their Fiats will point out, “the Ritmo was codenamed 138 before a decision was taken to switch to names”.

So meet the 138. The models were named after their power output so this 75 CL had that many horses. You think that’s not many? This was upmarket. There were also 60 and 65 versions.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

There was even an openable version.

Kinja'd!!!

And if you wanted to go a little quicker, the 130 TC with that many hp.

Kinja'd!!!

At a very impressionable age I fell madly in love with the Group 2 versions by Abarth, both in “Alitalia” and “Fiat” livery. (Some of its development, allegedly, was done on an Autobianchi A112 Group 5 fitted with an 1.5 engine – fielded by Chardonnet and driven by Nanard Darniche.)

The Abarth 105/125/130 TC, on the other hand, may have been fabulous (particularly the 130) but they looked hideous.

Yep sounds familiar.

Both movies are quite entertaining in their own way (and nearly from the same year).

I remember the Regata...it was quite popular here.

The Regata was as I recall renamed as the R egatta in Sweden. They sold about six.

An intriguing contraption, the Bv- 138. Opposed- pist o n diesels and originally one four-bladed and two three-bladed props.

They were also called Regatta in many Latin American countries; I imagine the trademark “Regata” had been registered there previously.

Something similar happened also with the Spanish versions of the Beta, which were called simply “Coupé 2000” and “HPE 2000”.

I am surprised any sold, given general Euro dislike of trunks, but old people like them I guess.

We got the Ritmo as the Strada for a few years, but Fiat left this market then, maybe partially due to those cars.  Real hen’s teeth today, but a few survived.
