Thanks! I only ordered it because that seemed like my only option to get what I wanted. Got lucky - only took a month.
It will stay stock for a while. My parking garage pretty much precludes me from a lift, and I’ll get some good use from these tires before going with something a little more capable/aggressive.
Just need to replace that shift knob soon - ha!

I put OEM mud flaps all around, and bought a net to stop stuff from flying around in the bed. Also, mine came with a tri-folding tonneau cover. I use it for truck stuff and it does a fine job indeed.

I won’t stray much from stock. I’ll eventually install the TRD Pro suspension that’s been sitting on my shelf now for 6 months. Next purchase will most likely be a cap. I have a tonneau on mine now, but hockey gear keeps getting bigger as my son gets older, especially since he’s a goalie. It’s getting harder to squish under the cover.

08/13/2018 at 14:08 | 0 |
I tried to get that OEM tri-fold tonneau as a standalone option, and apparently they only have it available with a package now. I’ve got an inexpensive vinyl tri-fold on the way that will do the job for a while.

Wow, I love it. A co-worker just got a very similar truck - same color, TRD Off Road, same cab (I think) too. I’ll have to snap a pic when I see it next. I am jealous every time I see it. But if the one here is an automatic, my jealously will dissolve quite a bit.
So here I am again saying how much I like the truck... yup still do.

Yeah, my dealer told me the truck has to be built with the cover in mind, it can’t be added afterwards (it was $750) . The only other “option” in the truck was car mats, so it’s not really a pa ckage

Nice. How much are the Pro suspensions running on the resale market?
All that goalie gear is no joke! I bought an inexpensive vinyl tri-fold for now until I figure out if I want one permanently installed or not (or want/need a cap).
I’ll get sliders at some point, and start building up my recovery gear.
Long-, long-term, I’d love to make this thing into a seriously capable camping/ overlanding rig. My wife and I camped quite a bit before we had kids, and we really need to get back into it now that our youngest can carry his own weight on hikes, etc.

Right - the plastic trim on the edges of the bed is different. I didn’t have it on my initial build order, but tried to add it shortly after (plenty of time before my build date) , so that may have been the issue; my salesman thought it should be no problem to add, but it ended up being a no-go. Oh well...

I dunno if you can find them anymore. Toyota closed them out earlier this year, so I picked mine up for around $600 shipped. I think people that bought them to flip are asking $1k for them.
If I step up my off road game at all, I’ll need some sliders and some skids. I don’t plan on getting too crazy, but do enjoy getting out and exploring here. My son was bummed about the light pollution near us and not being able to see the Perseids this past weekend, so we’re already planning a camping trip for next summer for that.

I am with you on the manual thing. Our Volvo XC70 is always trying to shift UP way earlier than I want it to. It drives me crazy. My wife’s Mini actually gets the gearing right 99% of the time, especially in Sport mode, so I genuinely don’t mind it.
What gets me on the automatics is a particular hill that goes up to our house. It’s a secondary (town-maintained) road, paved, but 25mph speed limit. There’s a decent little hill followed by a leveling-off which gradually increases in steepness until it’s really quite steep, approaching 10% grade at the top with a sharp left turn at the top. So without fail, every automatic I’ve ever driven up this hill will be in too high a gear at the bottom, then downshift on the first hill, but because I don’t want to be going 40+ at the top, it will upshift at least one, two or even three gears (I’m looking at YOU, Volvo) on the short level-ish section... only to then downshift at least one, two, or three gears just to maintain 25-30 up the next hill. But again, I let off near the top because of the left corner, but in the Volvo, it puts me in such a high gear that my speed drops to like 20 unless I keep my foot in it enough to stay in 3rd (I think?) which means I’m going 30... it’s maddening.
Most of the time in that car I just bump it over to manual mode, 3rd gear for the whole hill section.
Same thing on a highway onramp- as soon as you straighten out to begin to merge, it shifts up to 6th. I CAN’T MERGE FROM 45mph to 65mph IN 6TH GEAR IT WILL TAKE ALL DAY. I don’t have this problem with the Mini.
Sorry, what were we talking about? oh yeah, nice truck.
