Looks like a Renault 18, they actually sold these in Murka for a few years. Fun to see something of that vintage and style on H plates.

Renault 18? It’s been ages since I’ve seen one of those! Certainly deserves those H istoric plates as there can’t be many left. That used to be a large car, but looking at those doors and wheels it looks so flimsy now. It’s considerably shorter and narrower than a Ford Focus wagon. What is shocking to me is that its wheelbase is within 2 centimeters of my ;87 Peugeot 205...

The last time I saw a Renault of that vintage was around 2002 or 2001. That’s how “ rare” these pre 1990 Renaults have become here.
Every 30 year old and somewhat historical correct vehicle is eligible for H plates. A lot of W124s, Golf Mk2s and other regular cars have those plates.

I just caught a few glimpses but it looked clean. Like I commented before, even Renault SuperCinqs/5 are pretty much extinct. It certainly looks large for that era but compact cars of today dwarf the 18.

Those wheels suggest that it’s either a late one, or a Turbo and/or Diesel model, as those were fitted with 4 stud hubs.
This slightly s orry looking Turbo D also has them.
Being a rarer Turbo or Turbo D might explain why it’s still around though.

That probably explains why someone would preserve such a pedestrian vehicle. It certainly caught my attention. Though it didn’t sound like a diesel.

My state has a 30 year cut off too, although the plates are seldom seen on anything from after the 70s. The newest one I recall was a Chevy Citation (no, really), which made me laugh. We also have year of manufacture plates, which are cooler. Seeing old plates on cars I remember being not so old is the funny part.
I saw a Fuego on the road a few years ago, that might be the last old Renault around here.
