Wow! Looks like the rider was going too fast, though. Not saying it’s his fault, buuuut it does look avoidable.

In either case, he’s super lucky to be alive!

Ever seen a rider that wasn’t going too fast?

The thing about going too fast is that you don’t know what’s going to happen. You might be the most careful, attentive law breaker in the world - but when circumstances like this happen (or children/animals run out, anything), going slower is always safer.

Especially if your’e on a bike.

If he was going the same speed as everyone else, I think it’s likely he would’ve avoided the whole thing.

due to someone else’s mistake

I hope he doesn’t use the seeming unpredictability of the situation to avoid learning from it.

Emergency braking and obstacle avoidance comes to mind from MSFT course. This guy did not appear to have done either.

I am not one to talk. I broke my finger holding a pillow.

I ride, and I hope that if I ever stack the guy that helps me is as calm as that guy who turned up. What a champ.

I was taking a martial arts class. The objective was to grab enemy by the neck, pull them down into the waist area and knee them in the face. To avoid classmates getting kneed in the face, we had a pad. Partner was to hold the pad around waist area and other person was to knee it. Well. I was holding the pad and my partner kneed my finger broken. So there you go. Broke my finger holding a pillow.

Something like this... her fingers are exposed to the knee. Extend the finger just a little and knee hits it

Th is does show you how important situational awareness is (bike was going too fast for the conditions) and how unsafe SUVs can be during certain situations. I f the moron in the white SUV would have driven a car it’s far less likely he would’ve flipped over.

Right! I always worried it would be the person that gets their phone out and starts recording me to put it on YouTube, or they'd try to remove my helmet, etc...

Really surprised he went down.  Had plenty of room to go around, probably target fixated and then locked up the front.

I’m impressed that the Outlook driver got it to roll at such a low speed.  That takes real effort.

I’m not sure who was barreling towards whom. It looked like the moto rider was the one doing the barreling. Y ou could see that coming a long time before it happened and the bike never slowed down. To my mind, one of the most dangerous things you can do is drive at speed alongside a line of stopped or rapidly slowing  traffic. All those cars are stopping for a reason. I’m not saying it was the moto driver’s fault per se, but I think that situation was eminently avoidable.

What was that driver even doing, anyway? Did he not notice the other cars right in front of him stopping, so he decided to swerve into the other lane?

I can’t quite make out the speedometer, but yeah the speed differential between lanes here makes me uncomfortable.

It appears to me that he got in the crash fluids and and lost traction. And while I won’t deny the target fixation, if I saw an SUV veer to the left, my instinct wouldn’t be also going to the left.

I was wondering if he maybe hit some fluids as well.  Good thing it looks like he was ok.

Yeah, the more I look at it, and try to put myself in his boots, the more I doubt I would have been able to react any differently. I would hope I wouldn’t have been going as fast, but considering I don’t have as big of highways in my city, it’s a bit of apples and oranges there.

Same here. All those brake lights and he didn’t even lift.

I was nervous before I even saw the accident.
