I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to get a fully manual SLR or something else more old school and manual , but I got a fully automatic rangefinder instead. Minolta Hi-Matic AF2, from a really nice guy who’s had it for 10 years or so. From example photos I’ve seen, this should take some genuinely nice photos.
It even has a popup headlight
With original case as well
Photos to come at some point

Nice. I've got my grandfather's Olympus OM-1 that I'm putting up for sale. I hate to do it, because it's the whole set up with cases, lenses, accessories and manuals, but after a year of it sitting on a shelf I've come to accept that I've got enough other hobbies that taking up film photography with a fully manual SLR just isn't going happen.

Fair enough, it’s probably not good for it to be sitting around either. My dad has been going through the same, deciding to sell his Mamiya RZ67 and all his lenses and everything for it. He hasn’t shot on film since he got his big Nikon, and while he doesn’t want to let go of it, he hates seeing it just sit.

My mom had that camera. I kept my old Nikon thinking I would keep it up, well now I have a fancy Pentax with a built in HD camera.... It does make travelling more fun to have memory and the ability to twitch between video and stills. I haven’t been in a dark room in a decade.... :(

Go full old school and buy a Holga 120.

I’ve always had a soft spot for old film rangefinders and compacts. I’ve had a Canonet QL25, a Yashica Electro 35 GS, and a Ricoh FF-90 that I bought on ebay but never worked. I have taken some nice photos with the Eletro but it’s been a long time since I used it.

Have you ever used a medium format 120 camera? They are fun to play with and can take some great pictures. Holga makes a cheap camera that’s pretty cool.

I have not, but my dad used a Mamiya RZ67 up until a few years ago when he finally got a full frame digital. He keeps trying to sell but he has so many accessories and lenses that he’s asking quite a bit for the whole lot. I’d like to try it out some day, but I’m starting small for now in my foray outside of digital cameras.

Finished the roll on my Nikon F this morning so we’ll see how it comes out.
Rangefinders are cool, my first proper camera was a fairly compact full manual Yashica rangefinder that was my mom’s. Sadly the aperture started to come apart one day so I dissected it, just to see what was inside.
