Coming to the mountaintop, looking for wisdom. Is this a bad idea?  It doesn’t feel like a bad idea.  Price may be a little high...but not horribly so.

I don’t think I’d want to do much to it other than fix the e-brake, the bushings, and the rust . I have no desire to make it into a drift/race car.

Personally it wouldn’t get my dollars; $4,500 is a lot of coin for an E especially with some of the noted  issues like rust, cracked dash, etc.

I hadn’t read up on the Eta until about 45 minutes ago.  My enthusiasm is waning, but isn’t completely gone.  If it does get my money, it won’t be for the listed price.

Yeah, check it out and see what you think; Patrick’s George has written about his on the FP a few times. He seemed to like his.

The car you posted has low miles but an ETA can last forever; and I’m always skeptical of mileage on older cars.

I’d think for that money you may be able to get a 318is which would be my preference but different people like different things. Those have no grunt and the ETa has grunt to spare.  Tough part is finding one.

It was...fine...

It didn’t speak to me. The rust in the wheel arch is a serious thing. It has dents and dings all over. There’s some hesitation at 2k rpm. There’s some noise coming from the left side, and definite scoring on the left rear rotor.

All the electronics work. The sunroof works. The wheels are nice-ish. Seats are comfy despite cracking. Dash is quite cracked. Has the original toolkit. Floors look quite solid.

Kid kept saying, “you’re going to have a hard time finding another solid e30 at this price”...and around here, I agree. But I’m not married to the idea of owning an e30. I needed it to speak to me, and it just didn’t.

I said before going out that if he came down to 3800 I’d probably jump. He did, and now I’m not sure I’m ready to give my starting figure of 35.

I’d say the tone of your post speaks for itself but I may be misreading you. It’s a shame about the rust cause the paint looks so good.

Nah.  You’re reading it right.  I think I’m going to let this one go by.  I really wanted to like it, too.
