Seriously. I work about 2 miles from Worthington Ford in Long Beach and this RS has been on their lot FOREVER . !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! says its been on their lot for 542 days. They want $42,245. You’d think they come down from the 40's for it but something tells me they are stubborn in budging. And this price is down from $47,245 spring of last year. So if you got $43k burning a hole in your pocket for a hot hatch, hit them up.

It’s amazing how some dealers refuse to negotiate. I just went through the car buying process with my parents (post coming up on Friday) and one dealer refused to go down even a  nickel on a car that's been on their used car lot since Christmas.

This is standard for the Focus RS. The dealership in my town had one for since it came out and could t or wouldn’t sell it. I think they finally lowered it to 37k so someone would buy it.

Its terrible really ( I cant wait to read your post btw). Its like damn do you not want to do business? Its all about their pockets. Negotiating the price down really lets the shittiness of the business model shine through.

Honestly I think dealers that still have them are going to have to take a hit to move them. Sticker it at 35, no less than 30 and this thing will move. Quick.

Those are the worst dealers. It was hard enough to negotiate when I got my 3, but they eventually did come down.

dam straight its about their pockets. its a friggen buisness, WTF did you expect??

Yes, not willing to negotiate at ALL is a bit weird, but at the same time, if you always sell shit under cost WTF do you think it going to happen?

Don’t give me that bullshit. You know what I meant. I was in the car business. It’s toxic when greediness affects the way a company does business. If a car has been on your lot almost 2 years you wanna move it. 9 times out of 10 it’s loaded with commison as well since it’s been sitting. An incentive to get it out of there. Nickle & diming a customer for a little more is annoying and sick.

I don't know when you were in the business but at the two dealerships I sold cars at, a car that old would already be listed under cost and on it's way to auction. We could never really negotiate on those cars anyways, maybe a $100 tops, and it was always a mini. So maybe either the offer was too low or they were already losing money on it. I'm not saying some dealerships don't still try to screw people but in my experience at least nobody wants a car on the lot that long even if it means taking a loss and moving on.

Without giving anything away, I'm taking an unusual route to go pick up their car. Should be a fun post.

I think the issue at that point is they are already losing money due to holding costs. At a certain point you have to cut bait and take the loss.  Either shuffle it off to auction or take the cash offer sitting in front of you.   Then you can use that capital to buy a car that will be profitable.

Holding costs after 2 years have to be nuts.  They are losing money even at full price after that amount of time.

Dude! I used to live in Lakewood village, just off of Lakewood Blvd on Centralia. Where (not exact location) are you at? I miss the Beach, used to pass by Cal Worthington pretty often. Also relevant to this post: I bought my 2017 RS in March  after it was reduced by $5k because it sat on the lot for 378 days.

Yea this is true most of the time as well. But certain models, like the RS will be pushed to stay on the lot by the manufacturer. In a sense it’s almost as if them doing this is to make it seem like the model really isn’t a failure. Happens to my dealership with the G8.

I work right by LB airport. You got a good price on your RS. Where did you get yours at?

Not interested in the RS, but if I was I wouldn’t offer more than $37k.

I also wouldn’t want to buy a car that’s been sitting that long. I hope they’ve at least been changing the oil, the gas in the tank, and move the car a bit to keep those tires from flatspotting..

I moved from LB to the ‘burbs of Kansas City back in 2013 for my job but I still go back every now and then  for work and to visit family. It sucks, but it pays the mortgage and I have kids. Anyways, I got the RS from a dealer in KCMO called Dick Smith Ford. Just lucked into it searching one night on the web.

Do they still fly the F-18’s and C-130 Galaxy’s out of the airport?

Thats my exact thinking. But Its been in its current spot in the pic for over a month. I work 5 days out the week so I see it every. single.day. Same spot.

Damn thats a hell of a change LB to Kansas. But yea to answer your other question they still fly F-18's out every damn weekend. Its great but sets off all the car alarms and shakes the building and its always only 2.

If it has literally not moved for a year and a half I wouldn’t touch it unless they knock down that price, put on new tires, defuel it, change all the fluids,  and inspect the engine and prove there is no corrosion from such old oil.

I work at a Ford dealership and we just sold a 17' RS earlier this week that had been on the lot for 300+ days for 35k. MSRP was 42k.

Lol look up the Focus RS on cars.com, autotrader etc. A ton of dealers are just trying to get rid of them at this point. We still have an RS in Shadow Black that’s been on the lot for 540+ days. It’s crazy how fast people lost interest in them. They were originally selling for 10k - 20k over sticker when they first came out.

Right. I remember seeing them for over 60k in some places. It was crazy. Now it’s gone to bite them on the ass for being greedy (no offense).

But Ford is the only one to blame for then not selling. They gave up the hot bath hatch game in the early 00's with the SVT Focus, which was damn good. Now years later they want to get back in the game? They shot themsevlves in the food by first giving us the ST and then waiting too long. Everyone that wanted a hot hatch bought an ST or something else. And WRX/STi, GTi/Golf R buyers tend to be loyal. The RS put them on notice, but was mostly ignored because of its price. But it’s not going to even come back anyway because of their elimination of cars.

Weird thing is, I do see these cars going up in value in 10+ years. Come 2020 there will be no more Focus except for the Focus Active (Basically a Subbie wannabe) The 2017/18 RS’s will be the last, unfortunately.
