Why is your cousin so prickly about this
![]() 08/07/2018 at 14:52 |

I asked if he liked the car

It’s kinda satisfying when someone completely ignores your advice, then subsequently hates their own decision.

I love the car, I hate the box... such a stupid way to ruin an otherwise magnificent vehicle.

Me: Why did you bump my car, man?
Cousin: Isn’t that what the rubber shit is for?
Me:...

They’d never find the body.

It’s boils my pi55 when people ask for advice, you spend your time thinking, giving a response and they go against it, then come to you to complain about their choice while still not conceding your advice was correct.
He should of taken the diesel with the manual for the Citroen or better, gone for the petrol with manual SEAT Leon. The 1.4TSi is a zippy little car, has just the right amount of power to be full while not hitting the pockets for fuel.

I concede I recommended the petrol because I have a small fascination with 3 cyl engines... but the diesel motor is rather good. It’s all fucked up by the automatic transmission.

I thought the petrol was supposed to be slower on the uptake and less responsive in the Citroen. Citroen makes a pretty good diesel.
I love the VAG TSi/manual combos.
I don't do auto boxes, never driven one, never want to.

I’d give it all up for a longer rev range.

I would love a manual petrol Cactus, but alas...none in Canada! :(

This has one of those silly automated manuals they like in Europe, right?
![]() 08/07/2018 at 18:42 |

I don’t know if I’m honest, but given how juddery it is, and the fact it doesn’t have a park button, I suspect it is an automated manual . It’s horrible.

They don’t ‘like’ it. It’s a cost saving option, if I’m not mistaken. Autoboxes in compact cars are, traditionally, low volume items so manufacturers don’t benefit from the economy of scale of automatics you have in the US. It has changed in recent years but traditionally 95+% of cars like these tended to be manual; if I look at a used car website for another car in this class (VW Polo) until 2010 I see 94% manual transmissions. Additionally, most people are used to driving a manual so the quirks of an automated manual aren’t perceived as much as quirks.
