Looked at my bank account and thought "where did all my money go?"

Then I realized that this year I:

Bought a plane ticket to Boston and road tripped a car home

Moved myself from Savannah GA to Greenville SC

Took a trip to the United Kingdom

Bought myself a watch

Registered both my cars in a new state

Took a trip to Costa Rica

Took a trip to New Orleans

Sure there are some other things I’m forgetting, but this has actually been a very busy , and somewhat expensive, year for me. 2018 has been much better than 2017 and we’ve still got a few months to go!

Normally I run somewhat of a surplus each month, but this past year it’s in=out. I’ve got a very nice cushion, so I’m not living pay check to paycheck, but it’s also not increasing.

Both had pretty busy years.

Not complaining, certainly would rather have things to do then sit around.

Exactly. Last year I told myself I should take fewer weekend trips in 2018. I managed to do the opposite and book something pretty much every weekend I didn’t have something planned at home. I hate sitting around, but I very much look forward to a weekend or two at home not. The real tragedy is that I’ve barely driven the 348 all year because I’ve been busy most weekends :(

I would like to buy a nice watch, but spent similar money on a service. Oh, well. haha

I’m just happy to be living near friends. Weekends last year I would have to travel to see people are now spent in town where my apartment is a 15 minute uber ride away.

That’s great! I live near friends too, but I also have friends/family scattered across the country. At least that means I have places to visit haha

6 months is a long time, but not too too bad. I can sympathize , spent 11 months unemployed back in 2016-2017.

I’m barely running a surplus, but it’s depressing how small of one (barely enough to max out our Roth IRA contribution limits this year), plus having to cut expenses I’d rather not cut :

Jan: Medical bills; house maintenance/expenses; gym/PT; furniture
Feb: Medical bills; house maintenance/expenses; gym/PT
Mar: Medical bills ; long weekend trip to Sequim; gym/PT; major furniture; wife pregnant
Apr: Medical bills; house maintenance/expenses/yard ; paid taxes; gym/PT (cut this month ); furniture; sold car to partially compensate for deficit
May: Medical bills; major house upgrade/ maintenance/expenses; doggo medical bills; furniture; baby/maternity stuff (because she’s stressing); Oppo Cruise
June: H ouse upgrade/maintenance/expenses; huge doggo medial bills; small human medical bills; baby/maternity stuff; major furniture
July: Trip to see parents; annual insurance (1 of 2); BABY STUFF; small human medical bills

I really need to have more fun in my life. Have I ever mentioned how much I hate this whole SFH ownership/slave status I have acquired? Stupid house.

All that does sound pretty rough.

I can’t seem to find anyone so no small human for me anytime soon; watch me eat those words soon.

It’s definitely a challenge to get to that point, considering how together that other person needs to be. I mean, of my current coworkers within 15 years of my age, no more than one of them would be a reasonable choice for a life partner, let alone to raise a child with. This includes a number of people that are well into their 40s, too.

Thus far, it appears to be a very expensive hobby. No complaints, though, we spent a lot of money getting her to this point, which is where the above medical bills came from. It’s just a huge shift for me. We’re a couple months from a full year in this house and it feels like we have barely moved in...

Yikes!  I was able to scrape by working construction for my dad while I was looking.
