Especially the early cars, where you’d give Nakai a few days in your garage with a fridge full of Stella and a carton of cigarettes and he’d work non-stop until you wound up with rear fenders that went into the next timezone and maybe a wing on top of a wing on top of a wing.

Also Singers are for people who don’t think that it’s wanky as fuck that the Porsche enthusiast magazine is called “Excellence”. They’re for people who respond to you bringing up Tatra and/or Hans Ledwinka with “well, actually... ”

Parsh snobs. I know them well. My dad has a 78 SC and you get people who walk up and begin their chit chat. I like the black 964 they did.

I have always thought the “Excellence” masthead was a nod to Lud v igsen’s Excellence was Expected book. O f c o u r s e t h e i r r e a d e r s h i p p r o b a b l y u n d e r s t a n d s i t s o m e o t h e r w a y .

But yes, some Porsche enthusiasts have less ability to withstand (or even understand) criticism about the marque than even Porsche themselves used to.

I don’t get RWB, and I don’t get Singer either. I have the impression that some of the stuff I’ve seen from RWB appears to be very questionable on technical grounds. But the idea behind RWB seems to be to turn cartoon, videogame-inspired Porsches into something real. That must be enough for some people.

Singer cars are, no doubt, excellent, but they are also the epitome of kitsch. And they are getting worse.

RWBs were really cool when they first appeared, but with how lowered they are I just find them impractical.

Singers are still my favorite, but Keen 911 are so cool. I think my dream would be a Singer carbon fiber 914.
