So I spent 5 days in Iceland and boy was it a breathtakingly beautiful country to visit! With friendly and helpful people everywhere on top of it! Even grumpy loo ki ng old men were happy to chat and help you out ....in English! I definitely want to go back to rent a vehicle capable of driving on the F roads (4x4 requi r ed, we had a 2wd Dacia Duster ). I did however get plenty of pictures of such vehicles.

Also the airbnb I stayed at had the best dog, she’d come over 2ish times every day to play fetch with us. So I sprinkled in a few shots of her. Also I just dated myself with the “56k warning”.

Renting a 4x4 to travel Iceland is very high on my very short  bucket list. I really regret, when I lived in Boston, not taking advantage of the insanely cheap flights to Reykjavik .

I see you got some rain too!

It’s almost guaranteed.

With Wow air these days it’s cheap from many places, just in my area I could’ve flown from Cleveland, Chicago or Detroit, all for around $400 round trip.

Yeah, it was only my last day that it rained consistently throughout the whole day, it was otherwise pretty damn nice, especially for Iceland. It was between 55 and 70 the whole time.

On top of that if you are feeling cold, just head to a geothermal pool!

Those are some impressive prices. Turns out they don’t, of course, fly from Indy, but I could make something happen.

Thanks. Now I just have to figure out how to afford the rest of the trip.

Wife has mentioned a few times now maybe looking at taking the family there one day. I said as long as I’m in charge of the rental..

Yeah, everything there is expensive. The cheapest way to eat is Bonus grocery stores. Some examples:

We split pizzas for roughly $35, we ate at a buffet (excellent) for $23 and had fish and chips somewhere for roughly $15.

Grocery store had more affordable fare, sandwiches for example at $4 to $8 a piece and decent prices (compared to eating out) for if you want to do your own cooking.

On the plus side, tipping is not very much a thing there, so that brings the prices down a little bit and seeing all the sights is free, so other than that it’s the cost of a rental and accommodations .

I don’t see any obvious ragtop 4x4s for rent , sadly, but manual Jimnys look easy to come by. Promising. Need to start planning for next year.

Yeah, I think it’s highly likely I’ll go back. I also recall seeing pickup trucks for rent with fold-out tents mounted on the bed. Were you looking on Turo? That’s where I saw the Jimny’s you are talking about. I would definitely make sure that they are allowed on F-roads, I’m not sure if there are stipulations beyond having 4x4.

No, these were various rental companies. Quite a few offer, or even specialize, in 4x4s.

And the Jimny is definitely approved for the F-roads. Yay!

I love Iceland. If you get a chance to go back, there’s a car museum up towards Akureyri. I’m always in the planning stages of another trip. It’s amazing how much it feels like there is to see there.

Yeah I just scratched the surface! I spent a night in Reykjavik and then a few days in the Flúðir area. I will definitely be going back. I’ll have to keep the car museum in mind. I’ve already covered the penis museum.

That’s how it got me (Reykjavik and immediate surroundings , not the penis museum).
