But I don’t think I love it. It’s a lot of fun, and a great first car. However, t here are a few niggling things that I’m not the biggest fan of (some of which can be fixed under warranty). I can see myself trying to pay my loan off in two years and then move onto something else. Does anyone else have a similar sentiment?

Yeah, I understand that a bit. I like my F150 but I really do think I liked my 2015 Ram 1500 more... it was definitely comfier and handled better. Granted, it was a quad cab and my F150 is a crew cab but the F150 gets better gas mileage at the sacrifice of that glorious 5.7L Hemi sound of the Ram.

Things I like: the manual is great, the fuel economy is awesome, the speed is silly (plus turbo woosh), and it’s overall a goofy and fun car.
Things I don’t like: the previous owner was a smoker and it smells on a hot day, Sync is not great in this car, an d one of the window switches doesn’t work.

Damn, that was fast.
Topic at hand: I’m in a slightly better place than I usually am: in that while I really want another car, I don’t want to get rid of the current one. But i f my job situation changes, I would very likely have to sell it.

But also not surprising. It’s not that I hate it, it’s the fact that at the end of the day, it was more a “what can I afford that would be good for me” instead of a “what do I really want”. I also only drive it once or twice a week at this point, so maybe as I drive it more once I move my feelings will change.

Having owned a FiST as my first ever new car, I can relate. I got a FoST. It’s quieter, more roomy, and easier to road trip, but is still a compelte hooligan when you want it to be (just make sure to get a 2015+ facelift).
And there’s nothing wrong with falling out of love with a car. Remember - people WILLINGLY SELL Ferrari F40s. ALlegedly one of the best cars ever made and one of the untouchable set of “None will ever be better” and yet.......yeah.
I don’t hate my time with the FiST at all, and I love it so much more than I even dreamt I would. But it wore down on me and the faults slowly crept into my real life wants and needs. Love my FoST too but I won’t feel bad if there comes a day when we part ways. I learned to accept that cars are still inanimate objects and sometimes they are in our lives for just a brief period.

I understand that feeling. It is very depressing to be financially tied to something you’re not really excited about.
Yeah, the Sportly thing. I bought it under the condition that I could *afford* to have a car that wasn’t a commuter, as I have a company vehicle. Long story short, there are some unexpected challenges with work and life lately that have made me think about the CT200h on occasion, if you catch my drift.

The financial commitment is the worst bit, but I still enjoy driving it. But, at the end of the day, it’s a car that I know I won’t keep forever.
That will be a tough decision when it comes to time do whatever needs to be done. But the CT200h is pretty nice.

YUUUUPPPP. It’s fun, but every time I see a Mk7 GTI, I have massive regrets. The FiST is fun, but not fun enough to be as compromised as it is.

I resent anything I owe money on. So I avoid it strenuously. Probably explains why I roll around in a vehicle I bought new back in 2002 and paid off in six months...before the resentment took hold!

As much as I want a RWD V8 fun car, unless I can afford two cars, I think I might jump ship for a GTI or Veloster N at some point. The GTI seems significantly better at being a car, and surprisingly a much more reliable car. The Veloster is a wildcard, but I’m sure it will be reliable.

A) The FoSTs that are left are going to go for super cheap
B) GTIs are reliable for the first 3-5 years of ownership and then they TOTALLY SHIT THE BED AS HARD AS THEY CAN!
No matter who’s GTI it was, all of them, from every generation, has been an electrical nightmare after year 4 or 5. An d the thing is, every new generation comes out and people always say they fixed the issue and of course they have! It’s brand new! Th e only ones left fro m two generations ago are well over 5 years old and the most recent one has a bunch of 3-4 year old lemons running around!
As weird as it sounds, yes the anillary stuff on domestics is a bit crap and breaks down but the core of the car is still good. As the old saying goes - a GM 3800 with a 4T65e will run poorly for much longer than other cars will run at all.

The problem is, on mixed pages, I’m seeing FoST engines going at a rate that makes RX8's blush. The FiST isn’t as bad, but the little things are driving me insane. The Mk7 seems to be still solid, going on what, 4 years now? I’ve gone domestic brand, and besides a truck maybe, I don’t want to go again.

They aren’t as fun, but they do everything well. And that’s where the FiST’s issues lie. It isn’t comfortable, it isn’t roomy, it isn’t super efficient if you don’t have the perfect commute, it isn’t fast, it takes a lot of upgrades to make it fast, it’s cooling system wasn’t designed to handle the Southeastern US, it’s put together very poorly, and it’s just kind of gotten old now.

Yep. I traded in my TSX for a TL for that very reason. Just wasn’t quite the one. The TSX was better at saving fuel, but the TL is better at everything else. Exhaust note (by a wide margin), handling, comfort, tech. And I still have my Prelude for when I feel like driving a manual.

After the Oppo Rally where I drove a FiST all day, I kinda want mine back. The Mustang is faster but that’s about it. I'd straight trade my Mustang for a FiST no problem.

I know I’ve stood up for it before, but I’ll do it again - most of those have been modified and driven poorly. I’ve seen it on the FoST page on FB where guys claim it’s stock and they drove it nice but dive through the history and you see they tuned it and write about racing astras.
And I hope you’re right on the Mk7, but I won’t hold my breath given how quickly my friend’s Mk5 and then his Mk6 turned into a hunk of junk with the electrical faults and sensor failures. Let’s not speak of Mk4s and I owned a Mk3 about 5 years ago so yeah.....those repairs were fun.

Not only do you owe money on it, that money is not free, so you pay more money than the money you loaned in the first place . And then there’s the fact that the asset that you owe money on is depreciating at a rate greater than that of the interest rate on the money you owe...
I have another burner, try to guess it!

I know that feel. Once upon a time I bought a brand new versa. It wasn’t too bad of a car, excellent reliable transportation and wasn’t as bad too hoon as you think. But I couldn’t stand the EPS and clutch feel.
Paid it off very early (I almost had the money to buy it and cash, but financed it too build credit since I was/am young)
Bought a first gen Mazada 6 with the V6 and manual. And again, I liked it but didn’t love it. From that car I decided that I’ll never own a transverse V engined car again. And to be totally honest, that car was much more capable than the driver. I would run out of courage/stupidity(?) Long before it reached its limit of grip and too far past legal limits for my comfort.

but yea, owing money on something is not a thing i aspire to do. A friend loaned me $1500 to buy my Z1000 as it was a once in a million deal and I couldnt pass it up. but man, that first week I didnt touch it because i wanted to pay it off first.
