I love the Central Coast of California a lot. But it is very expensive as living in CA always is. I have always wanted a ranch which !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and I discussed a little.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! sounds just about right to me. Fuck me $20 million plus god knows how much in property tax and wages to make the land make you money...
(photo dump for those at work or don’t want to open the link)
Honestly this would be perfect if I added a nice car shop to it to. I would love to just run a ranch. It may be hard work but I would get to be outside and have something to show for work... Like good stock and healthy animals. Plus all that space. Too bad California is going to hell in a handbasket with all its blue... Maybe my CO ranch idea is better but I can’t imagine being that far from the ocean,

Do capybara and land tortoises count? If not, I’d have a few cows. Cows are cool.

There seems to be an inadequate amount of affordable housing in this area for immigrants to live in.

For the price of 3 ordinary Lake Washington waterfront mcmansions (or 2 tonier ones), this doesn’t seem that bad.

Can I build a place on your ranch? Considering I have family by the property it would be great. I do love the area you’re in, but it would be hard being further from the beach. I love walking outside at night and smelling that ocean air which is wreaking havoc on my Golfs parked outside.

This seems like Western ranching done wrong. You don’t want to own the property. You want to overgraze federal land leased at 1820's prices and sell your cattle at current market prices... /s. That is a seriously cool property, though.

Hey now. I’ve been told to get the fuck off land by ranchers... only to point out that I’m also armed, that I left the gates how I found them and then pull out a map pointing out that we’re on BLM/Forest Service/state owned land/a county road and that they can fuck right off... I have cut off locks that ranchers have placed on county roads or forest service access roads that cross private land. The sagebrush rebellion types get their feeling hurt by that .

Well that is just wrong. If you are there legally etc then that’s one thing. Locking gates on BLM land isn’t cool if if you’re allowed to use it by the Gov. Always leave gets the way you found them etc.+
I’ll only tell people to fuck off when it is MY land and they have no right to be there. Of course any Oppo would be welcome

There is definitely a trend among ranchers out here to see the land as “theirs,” even when they’re leasing it (which means the public has an absolute right to use that land for recreational, too). I’ll call their bullshit every time in Southern and Western NM. In the northern part of the state, you have to be more careful about how you deal with them. Up north, there is a better chance that you’re dealing with a land grant activist. They range from people who held grants (that may or may not have been perfected) from Spain or Mexico that may or may not have been ignored by the United States after the war and/or stolen by the Santa Fe ring later on, to folks on older grants from the King of Spain (that, again, may or may not have been perfected) and honestly believe themselves to not be American citizens and not subject to the j urisdiction of United States. The land grant activists might actually shoot at you.

Northern New Mexico is an interesting place. While land grant activists are an extreme example, the culture, history and politics of Northern New Mexico are fascinating . At a basic level, there are significant numbers of people who’s ancestors didn’t cross borders so much as borders crossed them mixed in with a whole bunch of much more recent arrivals. There are some Hispanic families that have been here nearly continuously (except for that whole pueblo revolt thing where the Northern P ue blos drove the Spanish out of NM in 1680 and kept them out for 12 years) since the 1500's. There are pueblos still existing today that have been continuously inhabited since hundreds of years before Columbus bumped into the Caribbean.

Same here.
If for anything, because I could never afford one in my area, where a teardown 50s bungalow can be 7 figures. But really, I would rather have a quality smaller house than a big pile of crap.

you know... with that kind of flowing elevation change, that would make for a spectacular track and with that much property.... “nordschleife west”. Build it and they will come.
