Last minute change on the solar car, our hall effect pedal wont work, looking for a readily available pedal that uses a potentiometer. Either available locally at a parts store or could get here by monday.

You could grab a potentiometer from the lab and spend a few hours in the machine shop. Voila! Foot “gas” pedal.

I don’t see why you would need a pedal, just put a dial on an off the shelf potentiometer and mount in the the cabin near the steering wheel, use a thermostat dial for extra coolness.

can’t you just use one from a junk yard in mostly any modern car

Most modern cars use hall effect pedals. We have one, but it won't work with our 2nd string motor controlers.

An option. But that would require a slip ring for the wheel. Also i think there's a regulation that says we need a pedal.

I could be wrong, but the 07-13 Silverados I’m pretty sure use a pot pedal. I had some TPS issues on mine and seem to remember that the pedal was listed as a pot.
Post # 6 seems to confirm this.
These are usually pretty cheep and available

Does the E46 use a potentiometer? It’s got a plunger on it and is drive-by-wire.

I think E36/E38/E39 BMWs had a potentiometer gas pedal... Might be able to find a junkyard one...
Yep - here’s one on
ebay
, apparently LR Freelanders also use the same part.

This would also include all gmt900 vehicles. (Tahoe, Burb, Sierra, etc... and probably the 5.3 equipped vans.)

If you can’t find one in time, you could always rig the hall sensor to a small motor to turn a pot.

Went to part store, it was a POT. Unfortunately only has 1k of resistance variation (not really sure what this means, but my electric folk do) , and we need 5 or 10k.
Thank you though!
