Blew the head gaskets on my way to work. Is anyone surprised? No. More after the jump.

Kinja'd!!!

Might be time to drop the motor out, tidy up the engine bay(brake line clips broke), refill the trans with redline(been needing it for a year), replace the steering rack, and do a water pump and timing belt while I’m at it(did it 2 years ago But I don’t trust that pump).

Kinja'd!!!

The car has been running hot for a while now and I was just blaming the gauge cluster but I was wrong. Did a pull from 4-5 And near the end of 5th it stopped pulling and started sounding rough. As I got to the side of the road the coolant was boiling, and tons of white smoke from the exhaust. That was at 3am,(work starts at 4am with a 90 mile commute) I spent the next 2.5 hours limping it home 1/2 miles at a time because aaa couldn’t be bothered.

Sounds unthinkable, but I had a 70 mile commute for four years, once upon a time. Wasn’t that bad with no traffic and an old iPod.

M anual swap, trunk mount ed twin turbos at 6-7 psi, with the stock motor( 4.0 v8) and ecu. The issue here was incorrect coolant mixture that was all water ( bad on hg ’s) and high coolant temps which when combined with a Yuge volumetric efficiency means it was when not,” if”.

But what I need to figure out is why were the temps up? Waterpump, thermostat   were less than 2 years old, aluminum radiator is a couple months old with two electric fans and a shroud.( But I’ve run this car with no fans on a stock radiator and it was fine)

And while I’m being excessive, here’s the dyno graph:

all that work only 373  hp !!?

LS1 swap time

373whp equates to about 410 at the crank, and 420lb/ ft torque is sizable for 3300lbs . Stock manual swaps make 220whp at best.

And that figure is on a fairly low boost of just below 7psi, so at 9-10psi   It should be low to mid 400whp. I bought a knock gauge with the sole purpose of upping boost, but have yet to install it so when this is fixed I’ll start searching for more power.
