Anyway, I remember one time when I was 21 or 22 I was on a two lane stretch of I65, and there was a truck to the right of me going the speed limit. Normally, I’d pass him and get back over, but a deputy zoomed up on my tail, and I was afraid I’d be pulled over for speeding, so I stayed put at the speed limit .
Well, he pulled me over anyway, not for hogging the left lane. His reason was that my registration tag had fallen off my plate. Not that I wasn’t registered, he’d looked that up, but that the tag was gone. He gave me all kinds of crap about how he could have me impounded and towed, etc.
While he was in his car, the younger trooper who was with him told me that if I had a handicap plate, I might be spared this kind of stop , basically admitting that this was a harassment stop because the deputy was pissed he couldn’t keep going warp 9. Note that he wasn’t on a call, because he had time to stop and mess with me.
After that, I went and got a plate to go with my handicap hang tag. I also now know that i t’s better to speed up momentarily, even if over the limit, to get out of a cop’s way.

Okay, seriously, what the hell. Left lane hogging and then pulls off the road on the central reservation? Why did they not pull over onto the hard shoulder? Is that a thing in the U.S.? Pull off the road to where’s nearest?
