I hope the cuts don't effect Jalopnik at all, or are minimal at least. They can shutter the rest and I wouldn't really feel a great sense of loss, though I never like seeing folks lose their jobs undeservedly.

Getting 4+ months of pay to not work isn’t a bad deal at all. I’d take that in an instant if my employer offered it. The good writers shouldn’t have a problem finding a new gig.
Reading into the article, it seems like more video staff than writers took the buyout. That makes sense, since there hasn’t been much video activity. You’d think they could combine their brands with product placement from advertisers and come up with quality original programming, just like Motor Trend did. It appears that was not the case.
Looking at the YouTube channels for the family sites, some are quite laughable in traffic. The Onion and Jalopnik are the only channels with any significant activity, the rest just look like complete failures.

I’m trying to work up sympathy for those folks, but when I think of much of the garbage I’ve read on Gawker blogs, all I can muster is the hope that there will be less of said garbage after this. Probably not.
