Nice. Does it come with bits, clamps, and all that jazz too ?

Milling machine. They use a different collet so the bits stay true. And the table moves in both X and Y axis. Doesn’t look like that one has a digital read out unless its hidden on the other side.

DUDE

That thing looks so awesome! So many possibilities. So jealous.

Edit:

And thi s is further evidence for my theory: Ramblin gets all the cool toys.

A vise, a loose box of end mills, and a couple other things. I'll have to get some collets and a vfd to drive it, since no three phase in the shop.

I accept your jelly. Having this is also going to prompt/enable getting the 1340 lathe running...

my wife typically rolls her eyes and asks WHY DO YOU NEED IT? WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO WITH IT?

I always answer in the same way - better have and not need than need and not have.

This is awesome. How far away are you from me? Can I use it sometimes?

Depends on how many toys you plan to have in there, but would a phase converter be a better option? You mentioned lathe, is that 3 phase? Then you’re going to need a saw of some sort, so there’s another 3 phase motor to run. You can use a 3 phase motor to convert single phase to 3 phase and run all your equipment off of that.  N ot too difficult to build, but the best schematic/set of instructions we could find were still wrong in some aspects of it.

Ive already got a solid state converter for one toy, and I'm going to buy a vfd for the other. Thought about doing motor generator shenanigans, but nah....

My buddies and I were going to go the VFD route, but we acquired several more toys than the bridgeport we initially had, so it made more sense to just make a phase converter and put a plug on it, a one-size fits all approach.  It was fairly easy, one plug in, a couple of fuses, a start capacitor that I’m not fully convinced we needed, and then just balancing the other legs with capacitors.  Only needed one motor, initially I though we needed one motor to spin the other, then figured out we could just use the other two legs of the 3 phase motor.  I’m not an EE, so I’m not fully understanding on how it works, maybe we’re only making 2-phase power?  But it runs the stuff, and smoothly too.  We even have a VFD on one of ours, but still run it through the converter because it was easier than getting a couple more VFDs for the other things.  It’s nice being able to make essentially whatever you need.

I think to have full power available for both at once I'd need a 6-7 HP motor. Didn't have one lying around, so...

Yes, it does! Jet industrial equipment of this age isn't top of the line by any means, but it's solidly professional grade and better than more recent Jet.

Primitive as faaahhhhk. I looked up a programming guide on it, and it’s possible to program in g-code offline and upload via  rs-232, but it's horrendously involved.

I should have mentioned that one of the purposes of this is to machine an adapter for a Rover V8 timing cover to fit different water pumps.
