Lagonda has always fascinated me.

And look at how tall those sidewalls are...

Is it just me or is Doug’s show really only about a man fascinated by  pressing buttons?

Cars rode smoother back in the day, no false pretense of sport demanding low profile tires.

16" wheels and 70 profile tires has saved my Ranger from many bent rims and punctured sidewalls.

I never knew that Doug or his Show were a thing before stumbling onto his Lagonda episode.

Pretty much how I see it, or what I assumed. Q: what’s your age? (I’m about to be 54.)

I thing 70% is the ideal aspect ratio.

I just stepped over the hill :)

But, I have an old car and have driven numerous old cars, I appreciate the ride.

Does the hill have a number generally associated with it? Whatever.

I like ride as well, and the 70-series tire gives pretty decent handling.

I think you got it - he must have been scolded as a child for touching things...

These tires just glide over conditions that are irritating in a modern car:

And there’s glass to look through when you’re out driving around. I don’t like the gun slits that pass for windows in modern cars.

It is nice being able to park without either needing to guess or have a camera.

I think you’re right. In the nature vs nurture argument; he came out as a car-diddler.

There were glaring craftsmanship issues in the cabin that he did not notice but that jumped right out at me. I fell asleep during the second half, so will have to watch again. Did he say how much the used car parlour was asking for it?

The old saying of ‘They don’t build them like they used to’ unfortunately can mean worse, and not always ‘better’. I don’t recall how much they wanted, I remember him saying it cost an equivalent to $370k today. I remember seeing those cars going for cheap about 15 years ago. I’m amazed anyone would want or fix one up. I love Aston Martin but that isn’t the one I would ever buy!

They are an oddity in a number of ways. If the Knight Rider were built by Maserati using Lucas electrics with hints of late-eighties Chevy S10 dashboard...

In other words, “they don’t build ‘em like they used to” can be a good thing.

It’s terrible. I love it.

Also, my parents’ Córdoba had something like 195/78 R15’s (I had to look that up, but I recall them having big ‘oil fuckoff sidewalls...and yes, the spec was 78, not 75, from what I can find...)

You know, the video shows that the car is just wrong , but I still have a morbid fascination with it.
